    Friday The 13th

Didn't even think about it until just now.  This explains my computer hard drive crashing..... :'(

    What did you order?

Premium Blend - Saw him in Denver and really liked the bull, but y'all haven't been buzzing much about him.  There was some sticker shock, but I took the plunge.  Thoughts on him? New Edition for a shot of rib in some of my Maine cows. And of course the ubiquitous Moneyman  (thumbsup)...

    Red Maine Bulls?

Thanks for your help.  I figured we were chasing something that wasn't readily available.  I'm pretty sure she doesn't want to go the fullblood route.  We may use a red carrier and have talked about Jake's Proud Jazz as a Maine alternative.  The cow's really good, but really huge.

    Red Maine Bulls?

My daughter's little 4-H friend wants to breed her big red Maine cow to a red bull.  Any suggestions on readily available mid-to high-percentage semen? Bull needs to be a downsizer if possible.  Thanks!

    Fun Calf Names

My daughter's heifer a few years back was Amazing Grace, and we have a full sister named How Sweet the Sound.  Daughter's show heifer this year was named for her maternal Grandmother who worked on planes during WWII - Rosie the Riveter. Cow names are all over the place: Finesse, Olympia...

    Needles and syringes

Good topic.  Most of us are probably guilty of a few QA blunders in the needle use department. 1.  Never re-use needles 2. Use an Allflex multi-dose syringe - so yes 3. Use same syringe for different drugs,  Wash with hot water between uses. 4. Never leave syringes in bottles. 5. No, always use...

If it's hockey you want, that's right down the road in Hershey (da Bears).  Not sure when the season opens though :-\

    Keystone International Livestock Expo (KILE)

Just a note to plug the KILE show in Harrisburg during the first week of October.  This has really grown into a fantastic show in a great facility.  About 1000 head of beef cattle last year and no gate fees.  It's also home to the Jr. Eastern Regional Maine show, but there's been precious little...

You guys and gals are great

Absolutely  NOT!  Pens are my guys.  Steelers too, and (sadly) the pitiful, paltry, perennial Pop tart Pirates. >:(

You guys and gals are great

Started out in the Western part, but married East.  Located between State College and Harrisburg.

Thanks.  I was born and bred a pig guy too, but you already had the name!

    weighing cattle

Not sure, but I suspect that the regression equation used to adjust weaning weights to 205 days probably does a lousy job when cattle are less than 150 days of age.  I think there's an upper limit (240 days?) where the same thing happens.  You'll notice that younger cattle whose weights are...

You guys and gals are great

I've been lurking on this and the "old" board for a long time.  Feel like I know Dragon Lady, Red, Telos, Cowboy, etc. personally and especially respect your thoughful comments on many topics.  Saw a couple of interesting posts recently and had a few minutes to take the plunge into membership. ...
