    Ag class

We just had a situation like that as a school in our county.  The Farm Beauro ended up getting envolved and they finally added another part time instructor and allowed all the kids in.  Fluffer

Ia State Fair Sale of Champs

We had a situation at a state fair several years ago where the Champion steer tested positive for something, I don't remember now, maybe banimine or something like that.  Anyways Kroger at that time bought all the champions at the sale.  When the state fair was trying to decide what to do with...

    What is a black hereford?

Well, I don't know this for sure, but I think Herefords have specific markings they must posess in order to be registered.  Don't they have to have 5 white points and then there are some restrictions on where white can and can not be?  I don't think the simmental, maines etc. ever had those...

    False Heat?

Yes, they can have false heats.  They can also look like they are going to calve any day for a good month or pop a calf out without looking bred.  Good luck with her  :) Fluffer

Is there a breed that doesn't have a genetic defect.

Im not trying to hijack this discussion!  ;D I read and article yesterday that said that "mini" cattle could be the future of our industry.  #1 for kids as projects, these cattle would requre less feed there for being less expensive for the kids.  #2 for our industry, these cattle will produce...

    What is a black hereford?

My response would be a black hereford is not a hereford  ;)  Apparently they have an assoc. but I would still call that a crossbred  :) Fluffer

    Please help. Steer won't eat.

I would switch his feed, try something new.  We use fitters Edge, but it really doesn't matter, just get him something new.  Has he been implanted?  Deworm him, and let us know how he is after that. :) Good Luck

Is there a breed that doesn't have a genetic defect.

Well, I have been breeding Gelbviehs for about 12 years and I don't know of a genetic defect they carry.  Some of you may consider the Gelbvieh to be a defect all its own  ;) Fluffer

Has anyone heard of this or done this??

I never treated my cattle with anything when I showed them and I never had a bit of trouble.  I just made sure that the cattle were vaccinated, dewormed, etc.  And one year I was tired directly (head to head) across a gate from a show heifer that was sick.  They were "big time " people too not...

    Clipping yearling bull???

Clip his head, and we quit leaving the hair up on the poll a few years ago.  Could be the difference in the area you show in, but I would shave it all off.  A clean head looks better in my opinion. Good luck Fluffer

    Puzzling heat activitiy

I find myself asking myself the same question- is she or is she not in heat.  I have decided that we get so worried about wheather or not we got them bred that we read too much into things.  We get all excited over some jumping or stringing.  Usually turns out that they are bred. fluffer

    HELP!!! Pneumonia

I assume your cows have been vaccinated with a modified live vacc., then make sure that your calves get a belly full of colstrum when they are born.  Did you have the calf posted after it died last year to make sure that was what killed it?  Have plenty of medication on hand and hit them as soon...

The Wife from you know where..

I got this on my e mail and thought it was pretty funny. A police officer pulls over a speeding car. The officer says, ' I clocked you at 80 miles per hour, sir.' The driver says, 'Gee, officer I had it on cruise control at 60, perhaps your radar gun needs calibrating.' Not looking up from...

I'm wanting to pursue a degree in Animal Science (would like some feedback)

I had to take Physics- It almost killed me  ;)  I also had to take some pretty difficult math courses as well.  Those were required for any BS.  Had to take 1 Physics, Chem, and Bio and then take a 2nd course in one of them.  There was PLENTY of math and science for me  ;D  I guess thats what...

    Help with bottle feeding!!!

Mastitis is an infecion in the quarter of the udder.  When you milk the cow out the milk is chunky and bloody.  If you put the milk in a bottle it looks like chocolate milk.  Its really gross.  A lot of time you can not tell the cow has it unill you get your hands on the cows udder.  Usually it...

    Cidr protocol

Yeah, just make sure you give 2cc of GNRH when you AI.  I would watch for heats and try to breed the "non responers" when you breed the majority of the ones that are in heat.  If that makes sence to you  :) Fluffer

    Help with bottle feeding!!!

Does the cow have Mastitis?  Probably not, but you may want to double check.  Calf only weighs 70 some pounds-  Those teats look pretty big for a calf that size.  I would temp the calf #1 and make sure there isn't any fever.  Then I would put the cow in the chute and milk her down and see if...
