    I did not see it but my nephew did it a few yrs ago, I believe he had to load and unload from the trailer and walk around and over different things, he thought it was fun and the calf gets exposed to different things before fair.  I think it is more for fun.

    our rules are bred, born and raised in the county.  you can buy the calf from a local breeder or raise it yourself.  we have both a steer class and a heifer class.     Need Help! 1 week til fair and steer has lost his mind.

    If you use the nose tongs I would get them now and try it a few times prior to show, they work great on most steers, my son used them once because his steer had acted up, the steer didn't need them after a few time but he felt more confident with them.

    In Ca I paid $16 for alfalfa and oat/forage or whatever you can find is about $14 and it does not look as nice as it usually does.

    How early is it ok to calf at?

    My sons cow is due on July 15.  but she is looking like she could calf any day.  Is this to early or should everything be ok at this point.  This is her second calf,  I noticed she is getting a big udder and has loosened up, she has a small amount of discharge. Thanks for any advise

    have you tried walking him with another steer? Also do you feed first or walk first, some will work better if they have eaten

    we usually put them on a halter and just hold them for the first few times and let them jump and flop around.  we don't really walk our just enough to wash, weigh get to fair....  usually after a few times on the halter they do ok, also helps to walk together.
