    Transport Questions

Yup the 30ish days is the one to stay away from. That is when the embryo is attaching. I would do it sooner after AI then later. Also the 90 to 120 days pregnant is fine too. Most embryo places will wait to ship out after a 60 day pregnancy.

Cow 19 Days post-partum in Standing Heat

It may be a real heat but I would wait for another heat. Our ET guys like 2 heats after calving for a embryo, unless its not a very valuable one.

    question about simmi cows milk

If the calf can suck just let them be. If the calf cant, just milk mom and give it to the calf. Nothing wrong with it.

    question about simmi cows milk

If its just a reddish tint and nothing clumpy then it was probably just stress of calving. Its nothing to worry about and will clear up. Had one on time when the vet was here and he said it happens more then we know as we don't usually see the milk the calf is nursing. Colostrum will be thicker...

Steers Won't Eat - At Wits End

Treat for Coccidiosis. Then probios a day after finished treatment and then start back on grain slowly. Is your hay grass? Keep feeding it, less hay does not equal more grain intake.

show heifer has hair and scalp irritation

I agree do a good wash and then dip or spray vinegar in her for days. Just rinsing and then more vinegar. It will help with itch too. Is she rubbing on stuff? Has she been poured for lice and was that the irritant on her back?

    Why show steers

I had a grandfather in our 4H club ask me the same question about showing steers. I just told him that I was raising kids not trying to make a profit. You don't make money with kids playing sports so why do that too? Well its to teach kids life lessons for later in life. The learn so much from...

Young cow letting any calf suck

She wont grow out of it. I have one that every year she lets anything suck. She milks well and her calf always looks good but really comes on when weaned. She even let another cow suck but I fixed that one and put a nose thing in the other cow. That wont work with other calves though.

    Something killing calves

Anyway you could leave the carcass out and get a hunting motion camera and see what comes back to it? It doesn't sound like a bird if there is that much trauma to the neck. That has to be a big predator. Do you have cats in the area?

Anyone have experience with a small intestine blockage on a calf?

I just had to make a similar choice on a surgery and a young calf. Mine was a hernia though. He had it today, so far so good. It was expensive but I cant see not trying to give a calf a life. If they want to live I do what I can to make that happen. Cab I am not so sure it is a Clostridium...

    Buying older cows

Its a tough call whether on not to buy her, but you can see her and we cant. If you think she can still be productive go for it. I have used Tiger Woods and Johnny Walker Red on my shorthorns with some success. Mine were TH carriers so it limited my choices. With her being TH free you have more...

    Meyer 734 x Angus Embryos

If she was a purebred angus I would say they would be in the $400 to $500 range. Seen any daughters out of her? That may move the value either way.

    Meyer 734 x Angus Embryos

What's the pedigree of the cow? He worked best making F1s with 6807 angus cows.

    newborn with hernia

So had a calf born with a hernia. Was a first time heifer but would not call it a long or hard labour. The vet today said that it could be genetic and that the bull may sire more. We have had 2 other calves by him, no issues, have 2 more coming. Now I wanted to use this bull harder this year as...

    The Grove Kookaburra W735 calf

Solid dark red, polled, moderate framed, sound structured.... why are the Americans not looking and bringing semen over on more of these bulls? Too scared to use something unproven and new and not what everyone is? Looks like lots of options out there just not looking hard enough, and doing...

    cure for ringworm

Bacon Grease. Only takes a couple applications and its dead, and the grease keeps the skin moist and soft and starts the hair growing back soon. Some will say to scrape the spot but you don't need to. It just prolongs the healing process.

Same heifer. one year old now

Might think about a big ol soggy Simmental. For more guts. Grandmaster.

best way to switch feeds in the middle of the season

If you cant do it slowly and mix the new with old, I would just cut back on the amount of new feed. Might probios the calves too just to make sure the bugs are active and gut is working. If they eat it just slowly up the amount. I have had to do this a time or two and not it should not kill them.
