We took 2 of our heifers to a fitting clinic a while back. One seems to have had an allergic reaction to one of the products that we used that day. I'm not sure, but I suspect that it was the Zoom Bloom, simply because it has some harsh chemicals in it. Has anyone out there had a calf that had a reaction to a product? It would be nice to know which products are prone to do this sort of thing so that we can keep her away from those.
The heifer got dandruff over much of her body the day after the clinic, especially on her top, tail head, and rear. I washed her myself, so I know that it was not due to a poor wash job. Her skin was dry and flaky. It looked like a human who was peeling after a sunburn. She has now lost significant hair along her top half of her body, and part of her tail head. She continues to have dry skin.
What can I do to encourage hair regrowth? I have considered some stabilized rice bran, but she is a tick on the fat side. I am afraid to give her something that is high in fat.
I'm looking for suggestions on products that could have caused the allergic reaction, and ideas to help with hair growth. I have brushed some Shapely's MTG in her top and tail head a few times, but I'm not sure if it needs to be washed out every time before I reapply. I don't think that repeated washing will be helpful.
