    Red angus

Have you noticed not even the breed promoters are quiet?  Big sale in Texas, old guy new to the breed, can't even find the sale results.  Auctioneers don't have much on their sites.  Just wonder if it's about as out as the Santa gertrudus is?

    Red angus

Does any one have some insight on what or where red angus association is headed?  Seems a new computer system and a move to a Denver suburb is counter to promoting cattle, but what in the heck do I know.

    Best Angus Calves this year

We used patron,  a schaff bred calf yardley bought.  Calves sure have some muscle, not overly large.  Used Johnny cash,  really like  the heifers,  no bulls yet.

    Texas Red Angus steers?

The deal with a red angus is if it's sorry enough it will classify,  look too good and you have a crossbred.  The guys with the chips never seen a good red.

    Steer fat around tailhead

In the dark ages we took a rolling pin and rolled the pockets into a less prominent shape.  Got to be determined but it will help.

Cow not feeling well 2 weeks after delivery

Before you get carried away,  does she have a temp?  You sure she cleaned out? Palpate and there might be a chance she has enough retained placenta that she can't pass urine.  If that's the case she will have a full bladder so when you gently push down just shy of the cervix you going to get a...

    Cow over due

Dex will also encourage lungs to get to work.

    Cow over due

Palpate front feet should be right there,  dewclaws up, backwards, if front hoof is much bigger than your wrist,  probably a large bull calf.  That also depends on your wrist. Make your decision from there.

    Mia flush options

We bred several to fatt butt,  they ain't much on the being able to raise a calf.  As far as the angus,  Gib yardley bought patron from Shaff's ,  they look real good so far.

    Ft Worth steer show

If putting tens of thousands of dollars in to some steer,  convinced he is the greatest bovine to ever step on a trailer, bet your livelihood on that being the gospel,  and then hanging all that on someone else opinion is just exactly that, a huge bet with short odds on the roulette wheel of...

    Ft Worth steer show

Just looked through the class placings,  there were several kids who have in the past been known to have a pretty good calf.  If anything happened it did nothing but help Ft Worth out.  The ones who want to get mad and stay home,  the show is more than happy with your decision. If some who won...

    Please Delete!

I would be thinking he missed his vaccinations,  ibr, bvd, and such.   Watch the temp, and listen to his breathing,  might need to get a little more aggressive on the antibiotics.

    What would you do?

I'm having trouble understanding,  you had her 6 months or so and have not seen her in heat? As before, what is this set up deal? Too many things not working but,  yes you have some refund due, if you get it, that may be the question.  Take her off feed,  decide how far along she is and how big...

    Red Angus Maternal Calving ease

With the cattle markets as they are, I'm surely not promoting 100 pound calves, but I sure do remember the poor prices of the 70's.  Angus calves, heck any calf was doing well to bring 350. I hope to no end we don't get back to that but,  the idea of sending some calf to town and just the simple...

    Red Angus Maternal Calving ease

The entire calving ease "cure" has been hooked to the theory that the calf is or was too big.  Never think that a short necked, open shouldered, wide fronted sire might have been a factor, oh god no.    Birth shape is a heck of a lot more important than birth weight. Then the next cure was...

What do you feed? Do you use a feed cooker or not?

Cooking the corn will get you more fat out of the same amount of corn.  As far as mixing feed,  a mortor box will be the easiest way,  feed for 5 or 50 and a heck of a lot easier to haul than a cement mixer.  A 3 by 3 one foot deep will hold 150 lbs and let you stir it with a square nose...

    Simmental heifer breeding suggestions

We used a %  bull the graduate on heifers , red black and cross bred.  Have not had a problem one, calves shaped right, small enough, and have some life in them but not stupid.  Oldest is 60 days old will do for anybody.

Barn floor ideas alternative to Cedar Fiber

You ain't far from me.  A thought,  football field in zephyr, and grape creek will be replaced soon.  Artificial surface that ain't worth much.  I would watch for the tree trimmers and gather their grindings.

    Feeding cooked corn

We fight the heat here,  go to 3 times a day feeding,  the cooked corn can be spread over a screen frame and cool for the day and still be used,  taking the heat out of the ration will help a bunch.  Might give barley a try.  The old cooked soybean oil will also help,  golden flo or such.

    Feeding cooked corn

Feeding 2 lbs before cooking or after?  An 18 quart roaster 1/2 full of dry corn will make 4 gallons plus cooked corn.  How much you feed is dependent on the calf your are feeding.  I use cooked corn as about 1/3 the ration, some take a little more, some less.  Have pushed it to 1/2 in a pinch...
