    What are goals for life?

Yes, of course! This price is nothing compared to other properties around here. It still is alot though and just means a tonne of hard work and even more luck for me to attain my goal.

    Some new steers!

Have attached pic of the full brother to the first steer posted here. This is the hair we were able to get out of him, although my brother was pretty lazy to be getting on with his hair growing. They grow alot of guard hairs and it sucks.

    Some new steers!

haha, the firsst limo steer I picked ended up jumping over the fence just after I picked him...went with a different one of course. ;) Had a look at the Bulletproof bull. Looks like they can sell semen to Canada. Prob be expensive though. These guys have said they would like me to start showing...

    Some new steers!

Thanks for the replies. In our district, we do use more of "market" steer types. Almost every kid sorts through steers that are meant to be sent to feedlots. Ever year though, I notice alot more that are starting to look like "show" steers. The biggest difference is that alot more steers show...

Best Market steer you ever saw

I've not been to many of the big shows here in Canada. This is one that always comes to mind from out district show. Won reserve couple of years ago to a charx, but came out on top when carcass results came in. Judge was from Texas.

    Some new steers!

A pic of a steer a kid is considering, but not sure about. And a pic of the fields. It was such a beautiful fall day.

    Some new steers!

Oh yeah...they are all April born calves. The last three are the ones they had marked down to keep as bulls for sure. We will try to build on last years experience in a couple of ways. The main thing is the feed. Potential of switching feed to COB from barley, still looking into that though...

    Some new steers!

This third one has too much muscle expression for my likes, but we loved his flat, thick top. This last one is my personal favourite. He embodies the advise I was given on this forum in my other thread. He is more level hipped, and much  more square in the back without giving up the wide twist...

    Some new steers!

Hey, So I meant to stay away from purebreds this year for the kids in the 4-H Club. We were bored so we called up the folks at Hivalleylimo.com to go see what they have going on in their pens and fields. This trip was solely menat to kill time on the weekend. However, we were extrememly...

    Advise please?

COB mix here is at 9% protein. This rbings down average total protein level to 12%.

    Advise please?

Yep, i also read about the TDN. I didn't pay much attention to this because the Diary Ration was already complete for this. I will talk to our feed guys about the protein in their feeds. I also was thinking to add a scoop of beet pulp. Don't remember exactly why though, haha. It was after a...

Thanks again. The lesson is don't go with purebred steers. I have attached a pic of him that I used to pick him. It is the first one. I also attached the pic of the other steer we were considering. I picked this one from those two pics because he was a little more smoother in the shoulder, a...

    Advise please?

Well I always write these things down, but I do remember the individual steers most of the time. A big difference I have noticed from being on this forum is that our shows up here more accurately refflect what is going on with our industry, whereas show steers down there are more show steers...

    Advise please?

Sorry if I am posting too many pics...I like pictures! lol. Here is the steer in the show ring. On the very left, the yellow calf got Grand Champion, the other blue shirt won Runner-up champion, and the red steer in the back right corner got reserve champion. The yellow one weighed 1475 lbs...

    Advise please?

Finally found the memory card and uploaded my pics of this steer. Pics were taken at the end of the day after the shows were over...he didn't want to stay still or properly.

    Getting prepared.

THanks. The char steer I had I'm pretty sure was from an angus cown that jumpedthe fence into the neighbouring charolais bulls. I only picked him for his colour, lol, which was the same colour as this bull in the vid. But i'm wondering about colour heritability? The only thing i've been able...

    Getting prepared.

So as i've mentioned in my first post here, I've never lived on a ranch before. I've showed steers, but I imagine going to a ranch picking up a steer, feeding it, then selling it is much different then actually raising cattle. My uncle is starting with cattle again, raising feeder calves. This...

    Advise please?

Thanks. :D We went with a limo primarily because of the flat top and because I do like the trim appearance. What do you think of the feed? I'm looking at getting some white CharX steers...maybe even CharXLimo. Mainly because of the colour. But I hate the loose feeling and look that Chars skin...
