    Shorthorn Sires

Since you're talking about a heifer, I'd pay a lot of attention to birthweight (especially since she's a Solution).  Here's a photo of a bull that I think might work.  If you like his looks and think he'll complimetn your heifer, let me know and I'll give you more details. Joe

    ATTN: Shorthorn Breeders

I think AJ and JiT are both right!  There is a tremendous amount of data on cow efficiency that shows, under the environmental and forage conditions of the high plains, that the 1250-1400 lb.,  5 frame cow that AJ describes will show the greatest return per animal unit.  BUT, that formula...

    New Shorthorn Sire

He's a son of AR SU LU Matador (the bull in my avatar) out of a straight Elbee bred female.  Matador is a son of the National Champion "Tex" out of Ward Bakenhus' Missie 709 cow that is a PACE performance dam.  The dam is a daughter of Gizmo and out of an Elbee Darrell cow. His calving ease is...

    New Shorthorn Sire

What direction is your breeding program going? Are you tired of the bulls that offer the same genetics in a new and improved “package”? Finding that “powerful performance” often comes with high birth weights and calving problems? Do you want a bull that looks better on pasture than he does...

    Spring storms & tornado's!!

Jill, The storm missed the campus by a couple of miles so there's no problem. Maybe I better say - there's no problem yet - they are calling for another line of severe storms tomorrow night.  The last time we had a major tornado hit town it was a very rough spring.  We've had 2 sets of storms...

    Spring storms & tornado's!!

We're OK, but that's twice in the 6 years we've lived here.  The one that came through in 2003 literally went right over our house - they estimate it was a couple of hundred feet over the roof, but you could see the swirl marks in the grass.  Compared to yesterday , that was just a bad storm. ...

    Spring storms & tornado's!!

The storms that came through yesterday missed my house by less than 1/2 mile - we stood and watched it from our front porch.  Everytime it hit a house, barn or other structure you could see the debris go up in the cloud and fall out hundreds of yards later.  We've been without power, phone etc...

Rhinestones and Rodeo Queens (Cowgirl related).

Lee, I believe you got yourself a true keeper there!!! As the father of a little girl, let me tell you they sure grow up fast --- too fast. Maybe you need to bring her down our way so she can see the mountains and you all can have another vacation. Take care.  <cowboy> Joe

    RED

Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and friends.  As George Bailey learned in "it's a Wonderful Life" a (wo)man is truly blessed who has friends.  We've all lost a  great friend.  (angel)

give us some triva about yourself

I was the National 4-H Beef Project winner (that year there were 2 Shorthorn breeders who won - Rex Tribbett was the other one) Somehow TV has become a small part of my life - I used to dance on Country Music Television's county dance show - The White Horse Cafe - had a great dance partner...

JiT, I'll save you the time.  I found this one on Roy Lovaas' web site - he's got pictures of several of the great "old" bulls of the breed.  If you want tos ee some of the sires that influend the breed during teh 60's-70's, go to Roy's page - http://www.rlshorthorns.com/native_shorthorns.htm...

    RFD TV

As some of you know I occasionally host the RFD-Live show - particularly when it's cattle related.  I'll be glad to pass along your suggestions to the RFD-TV folks - they're headquartered here in Nashville and have a major studio here.  They'll be pleased to know they have so many fans.

Prof. Bales, what are his yearling ''stats'' ? ie, frame, weight, wda, and, scrotal? GB GB Good to hear from you - I thought you'd gotten lost out there! I don't have all the stats on the bull here at my house, but here's what I do have: BW - 70 lbs., 205 adj. - 666 lbs., 365 Adj - 1189. ...

Who was the first truely clubby bull?

Cunia and Ildeno come to mind.  If you ever had an Ildeno steer you would remember him.  We showed 3-4 over the years and they were all alike - big framed (by today's standards), lots of LEAN muscle, super pattern and meaner than a snake!!

    A lot of you asked

Stumpy, She looks great!!  Refresh my memory - wasn't she the heifer that Twig found at JC's and then she was shown out west for a while?  I remember when Twig had Dazzler in Louisville as a calf, he had his full sister and a roan heifer from JC's that I was thinking might be this female.  Am...
