Shorthorn Impact 2015 - My thoughts

"Some" angus may have gone away from it but others haven't. That's the beauty of angus. Different strains in mass with data to back it up. We will agree to disagree on the usefulness of the crossbred. The F1, yes. The 5/8 bull or whatever it is, no. To me shorthorn breeders need not worry about...

Shorthorn Impact 2015 - My thoughts

I was actually referring to librarian when she said to use angus for carcass and growth. I believe I misunderstood her reading her response. Convienience traits to me should be in any breed or successful line of cattle. At this point it shouldn't need to be bred in if you have selected the...

Shorthorn Impact 2015 - My thoughts

So we need to focus on convienience traits but not growth and carcass? We can use angus to attain that? No no no no. Just no. A cow that's easy keeping with good udder, temperament and all that jazz but has calves with mediocre WW and YW and little ribeyes is useless to me. I think it must...

Thoughts on this shorthorn bull calf

Thoughts on this shorthorn bull calf

The roan cow in the background is the dam of the roan heifer pictured. She's a JPJ x DPH No Limits x butter field Able Seaman on a RB Meridith cow. X4167441 She almost looks bloated her ribs are so wide.

Thoughts on this shorthorn bull calf

Thanks Mark. I just wished these calves. Heifer weighed 632. The bull weighs 762. He's a frame score shorter than my heaviest bull who weighs 784. I think he's my herd ill for sure. The roan calf I haven't pictured yet weighs 654. His dam weaned well over half her body weight. I've got another...

How goes the meeting in KC for the ASA?

I agree with that to a point. Each breeder is its own entity. The ASA could do several different things in my mind they don't now.

How goes the meeting in KC for the ASA?

Sucks I'm missing it. I've heard some good stuff from few other folks. Heard s few negative things too. Hopefully the meeting today allows the members, not just the board of directors, to help make decisions. And hopefully someone on the ASA puts forth steps they will take to gain the breed more...

How's the meeting going? Anybody there care to chime in. Hopefully it's a positive outcome.

    THC questions

I was referring to show steers, not shorthorns. And in general THC cattle are more extreme. Maybe I'm wrong. Just open up a genetic horizons semen catalog. The carriers out number the clean.

    THC questions

THC cattle posses a look. No denying it. I'd like to know if my heat seeker sired cow carried TH. If she doesn't, that opens the door to 5 million THC Bulls to use. If she had any angus in there, I'd research the pedigree and see if any more tests were needed, and only then if I was going to...

    THC questions

Even if she tests positive doesn't mean you can't breed her. But knowing how she tests will determine how you breed her.
