looking for a bull to breed this cow to.

First thought - Gigolo Joe.  Jigsaw might work, have heard the same thing about Monopoly on angus cows.  If looking at getting replacements might I suggest All About You,  I really like them as cows.  Also like the suggestion of WMW, I'd really agree with Dr.Who but it ain't available anymore.

    ? about weaning

I've weaned may calves at that age before.  They seem to take it better than some of the older calves, only thing is if in to big a group they will get pushed around a bit.  Just have to put them in a smaller group and everything seems to work out fine.

    ? about weaning

Usually wean sale steers at 5 months - give or take a couple weeks, depending on age and time.  Then around 6-7 on replacements, they get weaned at the same time as we ship the market calves.  We have weaned replacements earlier in some dry years just to try and make life a little easier on the...

semen tank shipping containers for sale

Now that is a neat idea, have a couple oldies kicking around I may have to try that on.  If you've done one I'd like a little more info on exactly how you did it.

    Show Supplies Shelf Life?

Well I used up some adhesives and black touchup that I think was 10-12 years old just last fall.  Seemed to work just fine, and like AA's  it froze every winter for all those years.

    Old School Fitting Supplies

Ah, yes the big green comb that went on you scotch comb handle - still have that in the old wood showbox, giggle every time I look at it.  Believe I still have a couple of glycerin bars around as well.  Also have a can of sweet georgia brown - carried that around till the last couple years, just...

If it weren't for Bad Luck!!

Knabe,  point of story - 2 bull  problems 2 years in a row.  And yes I did semen test him for 3 years in a row and matter of fact  he passed every year with flying colours, as a 3 year old he had a SC of 42.5 cm and a semen score of 92 - the largest SC and highest score outta of our 6 bulls.  He...

If it weren't for Bad Luck!!

Last summer my clean up/herd bull went bad and never bred a single cow, he was mounting just not doing anything else.  That led to a real mess, and the decision to cull a third of the cows he was with - can't make money wintering dry cows.  Now today after a 3 hour search for the new bull...

Canadian Western Agribition Fat Steer Show 2010?

Well Grant I didn't realize you had not run again, while it was a short stint together on the  prospect committee I thought you did a good job. Yes from what we've been told it is probably a one shot deal.  There may be a chance it could go for 2-3 years, last I heard.  They don't want it to get...

Canadian Western Agribition Fat Steer Show 2010?

JIT, I take it then it has passed through the board?  I've been tempted to phone the CWA office to check whats going on with it.  For one I'm really excited to see the fat steers return - even if it is only a one year deal.

    Calgary Stampede Steer show

I liked the champion steer - really a solid choice, that said it was perhaps one of the worst judging jobs I've seen in sometime. Not political just bad, he seemed to have no idea from one class to the next what he wanted in these steers heck in a couple classes I'm not sure he knew from one...

    Strange visitor

Had these two critters show up a couple years back.  Fallow deer, still not sure where they came from.  They hung around for a few days and disappeared.

we went out the other night

You answer your own question by saying that one owner is a real straight shooter.  However it seems in general there is less integrity amongst people nowadays.  I've got a guy that owes a refund on a deal that fell through(not exactly his fault), and every time I have talked to him to see what...

    Best steak

Really like my Limi steaks, but one of the best we've eaten was a 2 yr. old shorty heifer.  She was a late May born heifer that was to small to sell in the fall, kept her back threw her out with the replacements and if she got bred good if not good. Well she came in open, wintered her, she went...

Gun Owners need to read!!! N/C

This sounds eerily like the Long Gun Registry our Canadian government brought in a few years ago.  Now it has really become an expensive joke,  seemingly with the purpose of keeping big city dwellers and some government employees happy.  There were people in the capital the day it was passed...

    Embryos for export?

This whole export - import thing is a real mess for the most part.  The rules in place to move livestock, semen, embryos are IMHO bordering on ridiculous.  I still am not sure exactly who is doing the testing and paperwork, or exactly who checks it, on the mule deer and antelope from are area...

    Recip Now... possible donor later???

From what's available to us my first thought is Monopoly.  Then I think she looks the type that might really mate well to Jigsaw.  With the Hannibal suggestions- and no Hannibal in Canada - Manchild, limited experience using him says use him on big, stout cows!!

    CIDR Question??

Thanks guys, guess I'm going on the 60 hour deal, as thats what I told my hired arm to come at.  We'll see how it turns out.  In 6 years using CIDR's and fixed time AI, I've averaged around 70%.  best was close to 80 and last year was my poorest at about 60.  I'm told that 70% is the avg. on a...

    CIDR Question??

So I'm pulling CIDR's and doing a lutalyse shot tomorrow.  Planning on a fixed time AI, how long after pulling CIDRs should I be doing it.  My vet tells me 48hrs, the other protocol I have say 60hrs.  Which one is it my AI guy needs to know!!  This is a little different protocol than I have used...
