    semen tank insurance

I am an insurance agent and it depends on the company.  We are independent agents and all of our companies cover semen tanks and contents on your blanket.  However running out of nitrogen is not a covered loss.

    Creep Feed

I am adding sure champ to our creep feed this year and wondered who all has done that and at what rate per ton do you add.  Also what is everyone's creep feed ingredients?  With the sure champ being 25% protein do you decrease the protein supplement that is already being mixed?  Thanks.

    New Blog

I started a new blog and would like some input.  I have never done something like this and would like to know what everyone likes to see on a blog and what you would suggest for it.  Here is the link for it.  Thanks! http://cosgraypolledherefords.blogspot.com

2011 Bull Breeding Line up, Add yours!

That is indeed the same one.  Our senior herd sire is a T-Bone son and we had our first calves by him this year, and we are very excited.  I saw about ten T-Bone heifers last year and three of them sold for $20,000 plus and were awesome.  I'm actually breeding a cow to him this morning.

    A.I. Question

I gave shots of estrumate yesterday and the day before to four cows in the p.m. I also put estrotect patches on them. One cow that was shot two days ago has her patch rubbed to where they say "breed". I did not see her stand this morning and her patch was still intact this morning. My question...

    A.I. School

I had the local Genex rep come to the farm and teach me.  One on one instruction, you get to experiment on your own cows, and there is no time limit on how long you go.  I liked it a lot and it was only one day and I didn't have to travel!

    Bull Bracket Nominations

Why not do it like we have in the past.  8 bulls per breed, do breed brackets and then the champions from each breed face off. It would be easier to ask for the breeds individually and not just post 20 bulls from mixed breeds for the nominations and use the 8 most heavily suggested bulls.

    Hereford bull

About Time all the way.  Don't breed him to anything with a lot of white though as he will chrome one up if theres a lot of white in the pedigree.

Miserable Winter , High Birth Weights

Everything of mine have been 10% higher.  Vet said they conducted an experiment where they took 100 cows from North Dakota, bred them all to the same bull, moved 50 of them to Florida, and fed them the exact same diet.  They calved around the same time and the Florida calves were 10% smaller...

    Monopoly Mature Pic

IMO 72 in mature height is still waaaaaaaaaaay too tall.  That would take us back to the 80's frame race.

    Hereford Bulls to use?

The only thing from Purple Reign that i would breed to a heifer would be Purple Tonic 10M.  Your best bet for show calves from low birth weight perspective would be CRR About Time 743.  He is dead and his semen will be limited in 2011 so get it quick.

    Help! Bull after bull

Past two years have had 18 calves and each year have 5 heifers and 13 bulls.  Luckily all heifers have been keepers and steers grow well.  Dad has 70 cows and like clock work every year he gets 50/50 but weird thing is they come in stretches.  Last year his first calf was a bull and 15 next were...

Possible Promotional Baldy Calving Ease and Maternal Sire

Not wanting to start a fight and don't take this the wrong way, but why do people say he should be TH and PHA free by pedigree when there is a known carrier in that pedigree.  Just because the Sire and Dam were free of carrier status does not make the resulting calf free of those defects by...

    Looking for a bull..

We have a couple Hereford bulls that fit your criteria.  One is a March 09 calf , moderate framed out of my best cow.  He is a little heavier on birth weight but is safe on cows.  He was used on 30 Angus cows this summer and covered them all with no opens and came back in great shape.  Also have...
