    OH BOY IS IT HOT!!!

So I suppose I shouldn't say we're having a tough time even reaching 70 degrees, huh?  We call it 'natural air conditioning'.

    expecting twins

We have a set of twins due in the next couple weeks.  The due date is July 3rd (after subtracting embryo age).  (These are lowline calves in a recip cow.)  Does the cow normally calve on time/close to due date or do they tend to come early?  They're in a cow that's had a couple embryo calves...

    Cow hit by drunk driver

I agree with Squeek & Jason...get an umbrella policy for your farm that covers your animals. And if you don't already have it you're probably gonna open a can of worms by pursuing compensation for your cow.  JMO...

how do you improve your conception rates?

We put transmitters on the tailhead of our cattle.  The transmitters send a signal to an outdoor antenna that transmits it to another box inside that is connected to a computer.  The computer program tells us when a cow is in heat by the number of times a cow mounts her.  It determines whether...

I researched bull sexed semen a little

we've been checking into it for Bluey and maybe Rudy (Red by Design) but it's pretty cost prohibitive at this point. Sexing Technologies requires 50 straw minimum at $50 a straw (for AI - $119 for ET), and doesn't include collection or shipping of course. We'd have to charge $200 straw for AI. ...

how do you improve your conception rates?

We bought one a couple years ago and it was around $4500 with 10 transmitters.  We had to have the owner come out to get it working, though, so if you buy one you may want to test it first.  We've got at least 1 cow that comes in around 10pm and is out around 5:30 the next morning.  It's pretty...

Cool Video of Selection of Champion Steer at 2008 Iowa State Fair!

Great video. I know judges have asked about sires here, so didn't think it was unusual for the judge to ask about the one steer's sire.

    Allen Lowline Cattle

If you know Jamie Tummons then you must know that they breed to lowlines.  Brad, her dad, fitted for us in Denver this year.  We have a full brother to Low Beau, the lowline bull they're using. Nice people.

    Who made Who $$

When I bought some in April it was some of the last at $25 straw.  Rep told me new price was $40, which is what others are saying too.

    IVF on a virigin female

Maybe this is a dumb question, but can an embryo be frozen using IVF?  Everything I read talks about implanting after fertilization....

    Cattle Calm

I used it on a couple of our heifers a few weeks ago..it worked on 1 but not so much on the other.  My previous experience was waste of money, now I think I'll try it again...
