What kind of aitomatic water troughs are you using?

I'm in the process of planning and building a new show barn. I'm looking for recomendations on what brands and types of water troughs to use. I will probably split the trough with a fence and water two pens on it, with a maximum of two cattle per pen. I live in the south, so freezing is not a...

    heifer calving question?

I agree with bronco fan. However, on the flip side of that, calving heifers can be a funny thing. We periodically sort out the heavy breds and put them in a trap to calve so we can watch them closer. Invariably, one of the the first "heavy breds" sorted out is the the very last to calve. Heifers...

    Help with a new calf

My vet recommends a big dose of baytril to any calves that are weak. 10cc under the skin. It's an expensive shot, but it works.

How do you build your bedding at livestock shows? Up for trying something new.

Put the shavings down first. Wet and pack them well. Then put the pellets on top. It's lots cleaner that way. With an injured animal I would make sure my beds are at least a foot deep.

Getting calves started on creep feed

Put out straight oats until they start eating. Then gradually switch them over to creep. I've got two to three week old calves eating oats out of the creep feeder now.

    Keepin him from looking "sheathy"

It's genetic. There has been many a bottles of icy hot used to make a steer appear less sheathy.

    Feeding plans

I would keep him eating as much feed as he will eat. Also , be sure to provide him access to hay.

    Feeding plans

Completely depends on when your show is and how big you need him to be. As a rule of thumb, most cattle will eat 2.5 to 3% of their body weight when on full feed. So your steer could be eating between 18 and 22 pounds of feed a day. But like I said depends on the show date and target weight.

    109 days to get there

Be careful doubling up doses of implants. The hormones can make their bodies do funny things. With 109 days left, I'd give him one dose of revalor g and increase his feed intake to 3% of his body weight, or as much as he will eat. Limit his hay intake so that he will eat more feed, but make sure...

Fort Worth Stock Show breed determination[do they still classify?]

Not sure. I heard 30 or so Angus. I think that's the toughest breed to get into. Not sure on the others though.

Fort Worth Stock Show breed determination[do they still classify?]

Yep. It's all based on visual classification. Papers don't mean anything. The shorthorn class at ft worth this year looked like a contest for MAB sons.

    Cummins 6.7L

I did the deletes myself at 20,000 miles. Now have 90,000 and have had no issues. I deleted everything, DPF, EGR, and DEF.  Hell, I even deleted the muffler.

    Cummins 6.7L

I have 2 6.7L with manual transmissions. The engines suck unless you do the deletes. Overall, they lack power and torque. After the deletes, they run like a top.

Whoever told you to increase the protein is right. What you don't want to do now is fatten her.

Need advice on a baby calf

He's doing much better. He is still bucked over a tad. I put him on a round of antibiotics just in case it was navel ill. I think his bones just outgrew his tendons and they just need time to stretch out and catch up.

    Denver '15 bulls

A wise cattleman made an impression on me one day when he was judging a show.  He stressed that feminine cows produce masculine bulls, and masculine bulls produce feminine cows. And he is 100% correct in that line of thinking. That being said, I don't know anyone who in their right mind would...
