    NEED A BOTTLE CALF ASAP!!

when I was at the family dairy the calves got colostrum always. This was a 600 cow Dutch dairy. BTW-he went bankrupt after a couple of years. ::) Most of the calves we got from other dairies were only 2 days old. It was an experience that I never want to do again. Was just too many problems. NEED A BOTTLE CALF ASAP!!

I'm sorry if I offended you but we raised over 150 newborn dairy calves that we know didn't have any colostrum at times. We had troubles from day one. I also came from a dairy background & worked on a large dairy (600 cows) & saw first hand some of the issues. I've been there when calf is pulled ...

    breeding on first heats

it depends on how soon she comes in heat after calving. I had one that came in heat 30 days out. First time she didn't take to AI'ing. We've never had much trouble catching them on 1st heat otherwise. Red

    Genetic Defects

I question bulls that have incomplete EPD's or none at all. As far as defects, look at how many the human race has. A while back being left handed was considered a defect! lefty Red

    NEED A BOTTLE CALF ASAP!!

wouldn't use a calf from a dairy. Most lack colostrum from the start & you might bring in problems you don't want. Check w/ local beef producers in your area. Jill could send you one of hers! Red

Calving Ease: Is it all "bull"?

not sure why but topic got hijacked a little. I think Juli was speaking of more of bulls that are promoted as easy calving & then get complaints from breeders that their cow had a big one. People just don't take into count the cow's part as well as environmental situation. No breed is everything...

    Dirty Harry on heifers?

need to settle a dispute. I have a Hardcore x Iceman x Foreplay heifer that will be bred this spring. Hubby & nephew are set on Dirty Harry. I want gigolo Joe. Has anyone used Harry on 1st calf heifers? If so how did it work out? I see he has no EPD's so can't compare that. Since out of Ali is...

Where will we find the next genetic defect?

I look at how many pedigrees have double or triple stacks of Draft Pick as well as Cunia. I think we just create problems for future generations. Red
