These girls are good sized heifers, and will definetly make good cows. While I would not put most clubby embryos in them, I do think they would work as recips for a lot of matings. As stated before, we might trade for a really good show heifer (of any breed) plus or minus $$, or cattle...

We haven't bought any Full Tank for a few months, but in the past it has been lower priced than beet pulp, and "a little goes a long ways." I'm sure the price of bp varies quite a bit across the country due to transportation costs, etc.        As for Epic, I think it is a bit cheaper than Shag.

JIT--I'm sure you are on the right track concerning the Augusta Pride heifer. I did not remember that they were only selling an embryo interest; I had only briefly looked at the catalog online.....

I thought the 31 heifer would sell for alot more $$$, what was the story?  I'm not a Shorthorn breeder and wasn't at the sale, but I thought she looked good in the catalog....

I agree--the calf will have difficulty staying warm. If you have access to a calf "blanket/coat" I think it might be helpful. We had a similar calf about 12 years ago and the biggest issues were keeping it warm (luckily we had a calf blanket) and lung issues since it was premature, as well...

I think it depends greatly on your ability to maintain and manage a group of recip cows. If you have the time and resources (pasture), you are probably better off owning the recip cows and caring for them (and their calves) as you see fit. But, you must also realize that you will have a fair...
