    Calves in their workclothes!!

Personally I'd cut them. Definitely easier to sell steers than bulls. #3 looks rough in the front to me and #4 I'd like to see a tick longer. Nice calves though, good luck!

Just needing to gloat a little....UPDATE, Flush Opportunities

What a cutie, congrats. We just brought a red roan shorthorn plus heifer up to halter break. Looks like she is going to be nice too. Cows are soooooooooo much fun!!!!!

Shorthorn nominations for the bull bracket

No one has mentioned Deadwood. We used him for the first time and got a beautiful clubby heifer.

    Safety reminders.

LOL......I agree. I hate the narrow isles and all the spectators that run their hands along the cow on it's way to the show ring!!!! Not to mention the people with kids in strollers even though it's posted everywhere not to take strollers in the barn.

    Slick shows??

I guess by some of the comments made on this thread the best we can hope for is to agree that we disagree. I think too many factors differ between counties to apply the same thoughts and principles to each. Heck people in one beef barn can't even agree so I guess it's unrealistic to expect...

    Slick shows??

4-H in our household  is a family affair. My daughter works hard during the year with our support and help. She is the one who works with the calves and gets their hair into show condition. What I am saying is it's obvious when you go to a show whether it's on the county level or not who has...

    Slick shows??

If you start our with a decent structured steer/heifer and a kid works with their cattle's hair all year and it has a decent clip job I honestly believe the fitting job at show time doesn't make a lot of difference. If it's got a halfway decent fit job the judge should be able to judge on the...

    Hfr to steer ratio

Since we started breeding 7 years ago we are always heifer heavy. I've asked people about it on here and they tell me I'm crazy to assume that a bull can have more heifers than bulls. But we had 4 heifers and one bull this year.

    Slick shows??

Daughter owns the herd. She works her tail off throughout the year. My husband helps with the clipping. She's getting pretty darn good with fitting too. She can fit her own if we only show one or two. I have been arguing for a couple of years now with the way our county fair is set up. If they...

    Slick shows??

Don't you think that's pretty limiting to the showman? What are they suppose to do if they've worked all year to raise multiple head of nice cattle that they want to show? Our county fair everything shows the same day starting at 4:00 and goes through all classes of beef till we are done. With...

LOOKING for either Show heifer or Showsteer

We live halfway between Denver and Colorado Springs. We have a very nice red roan shorthorn plus heifer. Here are a couple of pictures of her when she was just a few days old. Not the greatest but can give you an idea on color. We are bringing her in from pasture this weekend. She is very clubby...

Americans ideas of living in Canada

I don't know if this has been discussed or not so please forgive me if it has, with everything going on with our health care debate I'd like to hear from some Canadians what their opinion is on their existing health programs. I haven't heard much good. Out of 34 million people 1 million are...

    Slick shows??

My daughter has been showing steers and heifers for 8 years now. I 100% agree with what SSIMMENTALS said! Slick shows are the lazy way out for a 4-H project. We are competitive and show in other shows than county fair every year. We work with our cattle. We had a kid come up to us last year at...

N/C 12 year old girl question for Moms

My daughter was a girlie girl. She had a ton of little purses when she was younger. Take her someplace inexpensive and let her get one or two.

    Wanted: Shorthorn Heifer

We have a very nice pb shorthorn heifer. She's out of High Roller and Bull is Deadwood. Dam won numerous grand champion titles. Heifer went to county fair with us and won grand champ prospect calf. We had several people ask us about her. She's totally halter broke and very gentle. Her belly is...

need comments and opinions on steer

He's pretty young and it's hard to tell much from this picture but this is what I see. I like his hip, looks like he has the potential to be wide topped. Nice neck and head. Maybe a little course fronted on the shoulders. Clean lines, fed right and lots of love and he could be a nice steer for...

    American royal

My daughter and I might be bringing out a couple of heifers. Would be the first time we would be flying solo without my husband. He is taking a new position at work and won't be able to get away. Would be looking for some help fitting for the show that's for sure!

    Cattle injected with air

Just got back and settled from county fair. There is a huge stink going on in the county next to us about the grand champion airing her steer. Rumors are: charges are being filed, attorney's are being hired and worst of all innocent people are being blamed. In any given steer show take a good...
