    tow rigs

I have or I guess had, since I just moved into school, and my parents have now reclaimed the truck, a '00 F250 with 145K on it.  It is a great truck, chipped and it gets 15 mpg without the trailer and 13 with the trailer. We also put another leaf spring in the rear, so it holds up all the weight...

    Question on dehorning

Oh, they remember alright.  We always have trouble clipping heads if we have ever pulled a wart off that calf's face.

    Market Steer

Our auction is not connected to the 4H in our county.  A private committee runs it.  They send out letters to potential buyers and host a meal the night of the auction for the kids, parents, and buyers. The showmen are asked to find some buyers if they can, and the kids that bring their own...

    Question on dehorning

I would say that the showman should go out of the barn.  When we have put rings in the bulls, I always leave the barn, and my dad stays in there to do it.  A majority of those bulls ended up puppy dogs with me, but hated my dad.  Someone once told me that the showman should never be the person...

    dew claw problem

Well, it seems to be my year for foot problems.  We had a heifer get stepped on in tie outs Monday morning.  Her inside dew claw on one leg was basically torn off.  She is not limping, and she is not swollen, but that dew claw is just hanging there.  I am not sure what the best course of action...

    FFA?

You should definately join.  I live in a very rural area and over half of our high school was in the ffa chapter.  I always had a lot of fun, and the others in the chapter had the same interests as me, so I could actually talk to them about show cattle without their eyes glazing over like most...

Anyone been to a Stierwalt clinic?

Yeah, Stierwalt does a great job.  I attended two of his clinics and at one I watched him clip on a crossbred steer that was just shaggy with hair.  It seemed like he didn't want to stop clipping on all that hair.  It was just interesting to watch him work.

    record books

I never have done a 4H book, but my ag final in high school was always my FFA record book.  I never liked the way it was set up.  It was more for market animals and not for the show heifer business.

    Live Chat

As long as I live under my parents' roof I am subject to their rules and I am fine with that.  Sure I grumble and complain like all teenagers, but I also like to eat good homemade food and sleep in a comfy bed.  I can't complain about to much, because I am so lucky to have what I have.

    kleen Sheen/linement hair stimulator

I have used it daily, but I don't think it helped to grow hair as much as it helped the pop of the hair already there and it helped to train the hair a some.  I never had a problem with irritation when I was using it daily, but I was careful about the mix. I mixed 8 kleen sheen to 1 liniment and...

Am I Getting Old...Love No Fit Shows

I love to fit and I love to watch good fitters fit, but i usually only fit at the bigger shows.  I don't fit at a county fair unless I think that I can win the entire show.  If you have well trained hair the calf will look good without being fitted out. I don't really like when a show tells you...

    Junior National Hereford Expo

I was just wondering who was going to be in Tulsa next week.  I am not looking forward to the hot temps, it has been absolutely beautiful in Illinois this week.  I will be there with three head.

    Help Please

A vet from Purdue told us to soak her hooves in ice water, and  he did not seem to think that it is laminitis either.  We have also been advised to talk to a Dr. Nord from Bloomington, IL.  Has anyone ever worked with him before? If we are not able to improve her condition, we will not keep her...

    Heat + Jr. Nationals =????

If the humidity is high and it is sunny, it will be pretty bad.  Everything aroung the barns is asphalt with the exception of the hill up to the Junior Show Ring.  Hope for a breeze.  The junior barn basement is never very bad, but it can get humid in a hurry in there.  If you are upstairs in...

    Help Please

It seems that it is in her right front hoof, and that she is really favoring it.  If the U of I doesn't come up with anything today, we will most likely get her on a table and take a look for ourselves.  We couldn't feel anything noticeable in the hooves, but we really didn't get a good look...

    Help Please

No Justin, no swelling and no warmth.  Also, there was nothing in her hooves. Her feet were trimmed in April but not after that.  We are going to call a Vet from Purdue.

Most Hated Job On The Farm...

Cleaning out the drain pit in our wash rack.  It is not big enough for a scoop shovel, so you have to use a little kiddie shovel.  One time I found approximately 15 decapitated mouse heads.  No bodies, just the heads.  That was disgusting.

    Help Please

I have a February Yearling Heifer that all of the sudden cannot walk.  She has always been a little straight off of her front end, but since Saturday morning she has been walking terribly on hard surfaces.  She walks fine on grass, but if you put her on gravel or a hard packed surface she starts...

    PETA

Yeah, PETA might get mad that I treat my calves better than I treat myself most of the time.  I mean, the fact that they eat better, sleep more, and are under fans when it's 100 degrees outside at a show shows that I really don't care about my calves.  I wonder what PETA would think about that?

    Truck Opinions

If you want to spend a little money, there is a place around Chicago that will put a Cummins engine in a Ford body.  The last price I heard was 10K.
