    county show rules

Our county (Grant) and all the counties that border us are open to 4H and FFA. As a matter of fact, since our county population is so small, if you are in school (Pre-K through 12th grade) you are allowed to show up to the county level. Every year, there are a handful of 4 year-olds showing...

    Sale of Champions

I believe it is a 2 year contract that they have with all their judges, so my guess would be no.

    Sale of Champions

Kind of a funny story here.....my11 year old daughter (4th year to show, 1st year for cattle) was in the last class of Chi's. There were 4 steers, and she placed 3rd (if he coulda walked, she might have won it), but none of the steers even had a sniff in sale order.....bad class all the way...

    Sale of Champions

Anybody go to the sale last night? I was wondering what the grand steer, hog, sheep and goat brought. Looked on the Oklahoman website, but they didn't have any numbers in their article.

    Spring has Sprung?

I sure was glad to be home too. Got in about 10:00 last night. When we got there, all the area for Grant County was pretty much taken, and a buddy of mine from Garfield county noticed that their area was too, so we stalled together. What a blast. 4 kids with the oldest being 11 working on steers...

    Spring has Sprung?

With all the snow and ice on Saturday, everyone had to walk their steers through the sheep barn to get to the ring all weekend at the OYE. Made for some angry sheep people!!! Yesterday afternoon when it got above freezing, you could sure tell where all the leaks in the cattle barn were. Now that...

    Smilin Bob????

I saw him at REI last month. Very impressive. He, Monopoly, and Ree Heights were the only clubby bulls there that looked like anything. There were several other club calf producing bulls there: the original Heat Wave (they weren't advertising that he was there), Heat Wave 6, and Jimmy the Greek...

    hired man?

Afriend of mine leased Chore Boy from Trausch (Hired Man son) last fall. Very nice bull, even with his work clothes on. Very thick, good bone, and sound as a cat. He wasn't as big as I thought he would be. I can't wait to see some calves in Aug and Sep to see what they look like.

What are everone's opinions on this?

This is coming up on my kids' 5th year to show. The first 3 were with hogs. We are fixing to finish up with our first year of steers. For the last 2 years, we have sat down as a family, and jotted dow goals for our project. My son is only 8 so our county show is as high as he could go. His top...

    Leroy Brown steers

Dragging the shag and roach-topped are 2 new ones on me. Pease keep in mind that I'm from Oklahoma, so type a little slower for me please! (lol) I'm thinking that you mean lots of hair, but I'm lost on the other one. Thanks

    Leroy Brown steers

I'm going to look at some steers this weekend. One of which that they want me to look at is an October Leroy Brown steer. Anybody have a history with steers out of him, and if so, how did they feed out, hair, disposition, etc? He also has a September steer out of B28. I had never heard of him...

    reefer unit

What does everyone use fo a floor in all of these? Also, do the cattle run loose, or are they tied? It looks to me like after some time, it would get kind of ammonia smelling in there, so do you hose it out every night?

    2 blower system

OK, I did some research, haven't talked with the muffler shop yet about the "Y", but I can buy 25 feet of car wash vacuum hose for $42.50, and a new dolly from Lowe's for $30.00, and the nozzle from Sullivans for $7.50. I would think the "Y" thing could be done for $15.00 or less. With 25 feet...

    reefer unit

I'm in the process of trying to find a wrecked one that I could cut down. I certainly don't need a 53' one. Since our market shows are in the spring, I wouldn't need to use it a bunch, just this time of year when the days are getting longer.

    2 blower system

Anyone ever copied the 2 blower setup that Sullivans makes. I guess they have a patent on them, but I was thinking about going to the muffler shop and getting them to make me a "Y". I then could get some car was vacuum hose, and get the nozzle from Sullivans. I bet I could save half of what they...

    Old Sayings

Make your head save your hands. My personal favorite of my dad's.... "Let me tell you that guy is windier than a truckload of a$$holes"!! (clapping)

    Whats it worth? (Trailer related)

I would say closer to the $7500.00 than the $10,000.00 I had been in the market for about 6 months when I finally found one. It is a 2009 Elite that was down at TTR in Texas. I think they call it a club calf special. 8' x 24' with a 4' tack room, black skin, polished aluminum, rubber mats...

    November Steer--what show?

There are several November steers here in Oklahoma, and our big show isn't until March. A growthy steer could make that if you leave him at home to grow during jackpot season.
