What state or breeder has the best or most Red Angus Cattle

DITTO, DITTO, DITTO!!  Great producers :) One of the top 5, if not the oldest RA herd in Canada.  These cattle are extremely effecient.  IMO they are the perfect representation of the breed. Six Mile did'nt start showing until a few years ago, but won majors right out of the gate.  They show...

    Cloned Show Steers

Even though I have only been around for half of those 40 years, I totally agree.  The best thing that could ever happen to this industry is a LOT of culling.  People need to learn that trying to make gold out of $hit doesn't work!! It is simply unbelievable when I see some questions that people...

Congrats to Mama and Papa hilltop and lil hilltop!

Congrats to the Hilltops!! This is all great :)  I will have to come watch your Regional one of these years.  I have pretty much the opposite to say about my area as far as 4H, but whatever.  All I know is that kids from my hometown club could probably use a kick in the butt from these Weyburn...

Year old heifer having a calf

My sister had a heifer born in April of 09 calve and have TWINS about 2 weeks ago!  Yeesh, its one thing to get bred at 5 months of age on pasture, but then to have twins!  As per usual, one was less healthy, and only survived a few days. This was a PB RA heifer.

    Angus bull: SAV Pioneer

The pioneer calves are awesome.  They seem to be feeder type cattle with a ton of squareness, depth, and adequate thickness.  They tend to be flatter muscled, and no, I don't mean lighter muscled at all.  They come between 70 and 95lbs, but are square.  He is not recommended for heifers because...

    What have your results been?

Yes, I did want results from a 2-shot Estrumate plan.  However, the topic went there, so I commented.  Sorry for the confusion  ??? I do agree with you, however.  I don't think that 50% response to the Estrumate is very good, but that's what he says he would get.  I would think 80% or better...

    What have your results been?

Great data Grant!  BTW, I got your tank.  I will send it back on Monday.  Thank You . I used reused CIDR's, of which were stored in a cool shop (garage) in a ziplock bag for a year, and had good results with heats.

    What have your results been?

Hi all. Were getting about 20+ head set up next week just doing a two-shot Estrumate program.  I have an AI client that typically gets about 50% of the cows he needled in heat within 2.5 days.  I am hoping to do a little better.  I am just wondering how many head (%), and how many days most...

    Roan cows & Roan horses

The worst are those ooolllddd cows (we call them "battleaxe's") who just stand around and get in your way, or totally walk through you with their eyes closed.  They are always the ones who manage to sneak through a place in the fence, or get out....and as a result, die on the farm because you...

    Bred yearling...What to do

I dont see a problem with her being bred.  We have had a few "teenage" moms over the years, and they got along fine.  I am sure we have had them calve as young as 19-20 months of age.

    descriptions for dummies

I kind of think of it in terms of ease of fleshing, and being softer made, not tight and hard muscled.  I have attached an image of my own cow, that I would consider soggy.  She is easy fleshing, and is deep hearted, and deep flanked.

Thank You everyone!  No, the dog is actually named Boone, after Boone, IA :)  (thumbsup)

Pictures of my cows, and a few others

Thank You for the great comments! They are in great shape.  I would have to commend my sister or her husband on that one, they keep the cows for me.  I am not sure what they are eating right now actually.  I think probably some dessicated oats greenfeed.  No grain. The pup is a 2 year old...

Ha Ha, s'true! Well to put it into perspective, this is the first time I saw my cows in 6 weeks!

Pictures of my cows, and a few others

More miscellaneous.  The first two are of my "cattle dog".  My min pin (who the cows run away from, probably thinking it is a giant, and really fast rat.)  He is trying to ignore the heifers who are attempting to make friends with him. Others are just cool shots.

This is a PB RA again.  Cool looking, clean fronted (although doesnt look so in this pic), was a gorgeous yearling heifer.  I wouldnt change much about her, as my goal is basically just to raise showsteers for 4-H calves.  IMO she is much better than this pic, but was in heat when I was there...

Pictures of my cows, and a few others

I know a few ppl were yappin at me that I never post pictures....long story anyhow.  Here are a few of my small cowherd, as well as some other various images. :)  Fell free to comment! The first two images are of my 13 year old cow.  She is ugly as heck, but consistently calves early, and...
