Replacements Heifers from these Angus cows

I'm glad to hear about an Upgrade daughter that's doing a good job. I bred a couple heavy milking cows to him last spring that could handle the hit on milk EPD, and we plan to use him more this year now that his milk numbers have recovered. I assumed AND HOPED that his new number was based on...

Replacements Heifers from these Angus cows

I do like both of those bulls, but I haven't seen calves by either one. I really like the Trifecta deal in his YouTube video. He's only 1/4 Simmental, and Whizard is 1/2 blood...I think both of them are better suited for crossbred cows than they are for straight Angus.

Replacements Heifers from these Angus cows

I don't know too much specifically about Maines or Charolais, but I think you'd like the F1s out of any of those crosses as long as you were smart about the sire selection within the breed. I will say that I have a pretty sting opinion about which breed has the most potential to make the best...

    Renting Bulls

We've leased a bull to a friend of ours, and only because we know a lot about how he manages his cattle. The agreement needs to very clear about all the details, and take into consideration anything that might happen. A lot of people who don't want to invest in a bull for whatever reason tend to...

    Help! Ringworm

I use koppertox...just squirt it on the spot & soak it. Same stuff you use to treat hoof rot. Ringworm is a fungus, so any anti-fungal treatment will prob work.

    Which BULL TO USE??

I think the general consensus is that his daughters are better than the steers. The steers are not bad, but I don't think as competitive as some of the big league club calf sires. That's prob why I like him...I think he's more production-oriented and not as terminal. Which makes him safer to...

    Which BULL TO USE??

I don't know a lot about the club calf deal, but I do like the Simple Math bull. A couple buddies I've talked to who know more about that deal than i do seem to like him, too. I think that's a pretty safe move.

    Which BULL TO USE??

If you're that close to two bull studs, you should DEFINITELY go see the bulls in person! And if you're not comfortable knowing what you're looking at to make a decision based on that, then invite somebody with you who knows about cattle...ESPECIALLY somebody who knows about soundness and...

    Which BULL TO USE??

Nobody can tell you, "Use this bull and you'll win." I don't know where you are in the world, or who's close to you who is a good cattle breeder whose program you respect. Make a short list of people you'd like to visit or ask questions. Call and tell them you're impressed with their program...

    Which BULL TO USE??

Hitting a home run is a pretty big challenge. Avoiding a strike out isn't all THAT difficult. If you practice the fundamentals of the game. Don't make it more complicated than it has to be.

    Which BULL TO USE??

I LOVE that story...the 2nd one even more than the first one! My dad gave me a heifer calf when I was 8 years old because she was spotted, and I fell in love with her as soon as I saw her in the pasture. As a yearling, he thought she wasn't quite up to par with the other heifers he was keeping...

Opinions on Simmental bulls for 2013

Well, if you don't mind a black one, and you know your heifer is a non-diluter, then you might think about a heterozygous black bull. That opens up a LOT more options. But it also complicates your decision making process quite a bit, too. If you really, really want a red calf, then I would look...

Opinions on Simmental bulls for 2013

I REALLY LIKE the NEW picture of GW Redestined! I was glad to see Select Sires finally has a new photo of that bull. I can't say I was crazy about him based on the old picture they were using, but he looks like a different bull in this one. He'd still make purebreds out of purebred females, and...

    Just broke our bull streak!

I think it would be AWESOME to sit down with her and "renegotiate her contract" due to the circumstances. It's her last year, the circumstances are kind of extraordinary, and it would be a great experience for her to practice negotiation skills she'll need when she leaves home. It's fun to shop...

    Heifer Twin

They may do that as well...I've never actually had a gomer bull and I forget what the procedure entails, but in addition to that, there are altercations to the anatomy so he can no longer mount and penetrate a cow. He can still mount a cow, but he's not lined up with her anymore, so there's no...

    Which BULL TO USE??

I do think it can be overwhelming if you try to ask too many people for their input, open the possibilities to every bull that's been collected in the past twenty years, or don't really know where you want to take your breeding program. It's ok to ask for advice or suggestions from folks whose...

    Which BULL TO USE??

Don't think about it like that...that's too much pressure. Think in terms of making SMART decisions for each mating you do and you'll be golden.

    Heifer Twin

Technically, a gomer has a penis that has been rerouted so he can't breed a female...but I think we know what you mean.

    Finishing Steer?

Lower the protein of the complete ration and/or increase the fat content or energy level. Protein grows frame, muscle, and bone. Energy/fat will promote finishing.
