    Bow Hunters N/C

My problem is the tendon damage in my left shoulder.  When I hold a bow at full draw, my left arm is slightly bent, and this makes my shoulder feel like it's gonna come apart on me.  There are only 2 or 3 motions that hurt my shoulder anymore, but this is one of them.  It's just the way the...

    Bow Hunters N/C

Olsen, I had one of the older Mathews UltraMax bows.  It wasn't nearly as sexy as some of the newer models, but was fast & quiet, and I could shoot it well.  It was set at 62 lbs from the day I bought it until the day I sold it.  I had it for 9 years, and killed lots and lots of animals with...

    Bow Hunters N/C

"Real" bowhunting for me ended a few years ago.  I crashed a 4 wheeler while gathering cattle with pops.  I dislocated my left shoulder & tore up some tendons.  My doctor was a bowhunter too, and he said I could probably pull a bow again, but would have a really difficult time holding one at...

    Steer wont drink

The last show I went to, our steer did the same thing.  My daughter's ag teacher told me a few days ago to put some chlorine tabs in his water tank at home & he'd drink when he got to the next show (I know somebody else already said this... but thought I'd back their play).  The ag teacher kinda...

Most Hated Job On The Farm...

We've got a dog farm.  Dogs go number 2 quite often.... about 3 or 4 times per day.  We pick it up & put it in buckets. Twice a week, those buckets have to be emptied.  That's easily the worst job on the farm.  As far as the rat problem goes, get yourself a patterdale terrier.  Those little...

National Barack Channel (NBC and MSNBC)

I loved it as well.  For anyone interested, here's John Ziegler a few hours after this interview, this time on Jon Gibson's radio show: http://homepage.mac.com/mkoldys/blog/pjn266353452.html Funny stuff.

Just For Fun: Cute things said by your kids!

Well I guess I'd better share a few on our farm kids as well.... My son and one of his little buddies went with their class from school to one of those "Corn Maze" places.  The fella who owned the place was explaining what went on at the "corn maze" and what they were supposed to do, how they...

    Cow Names

Right now we've got Lacy the heifer & Bumper, the steer.  The steer is a fat little toad & my wife and I thought it'd be cool to name him Moto Moto, after the hippo on Madagascar 2 but my daughter over-ruled us.  Bumper stuck.

    Probably a silly question....

We're rinsing our calves twice everyday right now.  Do we need to be blowing them and hitting them with sheen every time we rinse?

Cool Video of Selection of Champion Steer at 2008 Iowa State Fair!

That's a really neat video.  I wonder just how many times that "slap" at the end has gone bad for him....  it'd be my luck that I'd do it & get punted 10 feet sideways.

need help how to get rid of ring worms

Same problem, amigo.  Everybody has told me to use the Fluid Film, but both of our calves have ringworm around their flippin' eyes.  I'm too chicken to put the flud film there, so I've been using Lotrimin.  Works like a charm.  I treated our steer with Lotrimin for about 5 straight days, then...

    Beer

High on my list of worst beers ever has gotta be Coors Light.  Jeeze that stuff tastes like water, but leaves me with a monster headache.

Gotta brag on my daughter..She got Grand Champion Steer!!!

SWEEEEEET!!!!!  That's really awesome. (clapping) I don't blame you a bit.  If my daughter does well this year, you'd better believe I'm gonna brag on her.  She's working hard.

    Keeping things in perspective.....

I agree.  All of them really knew their stuff & wow...... Ryan has got a nice calf!  His steer is a man among boys right now.  The Stults and the rest of that crew kept us rolling with laughter all weekend.  They were lots of fun.

    Cattle Calm

Is that for me or the calf?

    Keeping things in perspective.....

Well, there weren't that many steers that showed up.  So.... how we did is a little immaterial.  Yes we brought home some ribbons and a little prize money, but bragging about doing well at a small show would be a little silly.  I'll say this: there were some really good cattle at that small...

    Keeping things in perspective.....

I appreciate yalls comments.  My daughter is going to her first show this weekend, and gets to pick out her own show stick & whatever else she feels like she has to have to show.  I ain't talking about big stuff.... just the regular show equipment for the ring.  The monster show stick she's...

    Keeping things in perspective.....

I don't know about all of yall..... but there are times when I wonder if show projects in general are worth all the hassle.  This is our first year showing calves, having shown hogs last year.  I've been spending around 4 hrs a day out there with her 2 calves.  When I get to thinking about all...

    Storms

That monsterous storm Saturday missed us, and then the one last night split and went around us as well.  We got a little bit of rain, probably not even an inch.  There are places within an hour's drive all 4 directions from us, that received several inches of rain just last night.  We still have...
