    Different kinda perfect calf.......

Totally agree leanbeef! I think limiman12 has it going in the right direction, these calves may not have all the traits you are looking for but they have some of the essential ones and hopefully you can keep breeding up for those other traits without sacrificing the essential ones. I am going to...

    Different kinda perfect calf.......

Duncraggan that is really interesting. So by indexing you mean in herd ratio? If not could you explain what you mean? and then by joining i think you are talking about breeding? I dont have a big herd but I have been having a lot of problems the last few years this sounds like exactly what I...

    Big Calves

Ughh!!! Thats huge! It is hard to imagine, but some of those big ol cows weighing 2000 lbs its really not all that difficult for them to produce well over 100lb calves but I havent heard of anything like that. Interesting!

    Questions on DNA Testing

So what exactly do they need to DNA test (Hair, Blood)? Then what can that tell you? Parentage? Can it tell you a percent of each breed? Then I assume once you have tested an association will take those results an let you register if your animal meets the qualifications? Just curious never sent...

    Breeding decisions finished (please comment)

I take a very similar approach in my AI too! I breed to a variety of bulls. I have about 20-25 cows that I breed and I breed to about 8 to 10 different bulls. I just analyze the cow, determine what I think she lacks, do some research on what bulls might improve those things and go at it that...

    Calf Pictures

We have recently joined the clubby deal too in the last few years so I am anxious to see what people have to write about your questions. They are very good questions I probably didnt have the guts to ask. It is possible to that there may be no answer to some of them, but it doesnt hurt to ask...

It all depends on if you have the time to do it, but I bet she will get better. We had one a few years ago that was an old cow like 16 yrs old had a big calf. Calf lived and she could not get up. We would help calf nurse her laying down and supplement calf. We would try to get her up once a day...

    Input on popular sires

I agree that the cow is more important and I always AI (not very good at it yet) and I go thru and pick a specific mating for each cow trying to improve what they might be lacking. But right now i am in the market for a cleanup bull so i am looking for something calving ease (cuz I keep...

    Input on popular sires

I have been looking at bulls and I am looking at 3 in particular. I have a quite a mix of cows but several are Irish Whiskey granddaughters, some angus cows going back to sitz alliance, and some clubby breds etc. Anyway I would like to breed for both steers and heifers, but the bulls...

    Cattle transport

I would have the owners of the animals do the leg work. But generally if they are being sold you just need to call the state vets office of the state that the animals are destined for and and they should be able to tell you what you need. You can probably google _____ state vets office for a...

thanks for the replies that cwauctions was the one I was looking for. I have not looked at the others yet but I will when I get a second. Calf just born with stiff joints

I cant tell you the science behind it. I have always thought that its an antibiotic and it helps with swelling and inflamation, but people around here say to give them a shot of LA 200 intermuscular or if caught real early with a syringer orally like less than 24 hrs old. We have tried it once...
