    Simmental sexed semen ?

We have sexed  Built Right, In Dew Time, Bettis, Mo Better, and Ranch Hand-bought all of it off the truck for 45-50 per straw so far on results we are 1 for 2 with several more to check.  We think that the quality of sexed semen coming from the bull studs that have invested in their own sexing...

    c-section effect flushing?

Was the C section due to birth weight issues?  if so then why would you want to flush a cow with known birthweight problems?  furthermore what if you want to sell the resulting embryos, will you let all potential buyers know about the past issues?  the cow is yours and this is just my opinion...

    How much longer till???

It looks to me that the cattle market is on the way up, how far it will go is anybodys guess, but look at the signs:  $1.00 fats, and possibly the biggest/earliest corn crop in the ground in the US, big planting should equal <$3 corn by fall. As to your dillema on selling cattle at a premium...

    ABS Simmentals

A friend of ours is showing a Ranchhand, she is very functionally correct and very growthy for her age, could stand to be a little deeper however, as to Macho the last 2 years in fall sales the best bred heifers (several)  that we saw were macho 1/2 bloods.  If we had more angus based cattle we...

    What's he worth?

Just my .02 worth, Ohio may not be the state to sell him in, he isn't black enough!! ;) I do like the idea of spending some money advertizing him, and then get him into a big name sale on a % basis, yes that will cost you some $ upfront but very might pay some big dividends at the end.  In my...

What to use on Salute Daughters

I have 2 daughters of salute in production now as 1st calf heifers, and at least so far they really milk, we have never had birthwiehgt problems with them when they were born or with their 1st calves, if you want steers from them I would consider SS Kaboom, calving ease Sonny son that i have...

    Dream On daughters

i would make sure that the DO cows were extremely correct on their feet and legs, because i have seen wayyy to many Alias calves that were really bad, and or crippled, I think i would considr sunseeker as long as the cows have plenty of depth and heart.  Good luck

Re: Amazon Daughter selling at SVF April 24th Lot 54

We saw this heifer last fall as we were looking for calves, and we just said wow!!!, if she has developed the way she looked, this would be a great heifer for show and then really!! as a donor potential.  You won't be disappointed here

    What would you do??

If this was my cow, I would do a c section yesterday if not sooner, we had a cow several years ago who went down about 2 wks prior to due date and we tried to treat her to calving, unfortunately we hauled her to the landfill, I have always regretted not taking the calf

    Ohio Maine Bull sale

I personally saw the kleman Hot commodity calves(1, 12,24) in the fall and was very impressed with the muscle and softness of them.  Klemans have some really nice cattle and aren't a big name so price shouldn't get hyped up.  Plus all of the Hot commodity calves at Jones show catlle sale last...

An interesting cattle sale experience - What would you do.

I agree with the though of naming names, this kind of behavior will continue unless brought to the light of day, I would have aslo walked away from the sale, taken my check back and been very happy to do so, because if the seller acts this way upfront how would he react if the embryos don't...

OK Planeteers.....Time 2 USE Your Brain AGAIN.........

As the author of the claiming idea I would like to thank all who realized that it was just an idea, which is exactly what Brad asked for, I clearly understand there are some problems with my idea as with many ideas, but to have a beggining point there must be an idea, saddly today our country...

OK Planeteers.....Time 2 USE Your Brain AGAIN.........

I have a couple of ideas that could work, When calves are checked in prior to the show do an ultrasound on the ribeye, very quick ultrasound test with a  2"x2" square area clipped down wouldn't interfere with the hair artists out there, then post the results on the exhibitor back tag similar to...

    On Line Auctions ...

I have bought several times on ETcow, buyers premium never bothered me that much just figured it into bidding, they also provide good fall back support if something goes amiss in the transaction, I have bid on several animals during live online sales all have been good except the last one, was...

    calving season stories

Last friday we had a hereford heifer calve, calf backwards, then prolapse, then no milk, heifer quit eating and drinking, wed the heifer died, $25 to landfill, vet bill showed up today $150+, heifer calf being bottle fed and doing well- silver lining in otherwise dark cloud, 3 previous calves...

    No colostrum

I try to keep at least 1 gallon of frozen colostrum on hand, our first cow to calve every year has enough milk to feed 4 calves, and she loves grain, so i ususally put her calf on one teat and strip out milk on the other side, she will stand without being tied as long as the grain lasts...

    Opinions on steer please....

Being from the cold and snowy north I don't know much about the ways of a slick show, however the steer looks like he cuts up in both his flank and his heart.  If he were mine i would use the next 2 weeks to get him onto a full load of either cottonseed hulls, full tank, or one of the...

    question regarding recips

I have a little experience in working with embryos, and farming them out to others to put in and I can tell you clearly that over the past 4 years of doing this I have had MUCH MUCH  better results in the embryos I put in my own cows, we are running about 60% conception on embryos at home and...
