    Professional Sites vs. Homemade Sites

I would vote professional as well for a number of reasons. The first being that there is more to your website than what you see on the surface. A professionally built website is coded so that invididual parts link to a list of formats that tell all the website how to act, making it faster...

    What to breed her to?

He doesn't leave a very registrable Hereford though...  ;D We had excellent luck with DR World Class this year. We didn't use him on any heifers, so I can't say what the birth weights would be on a heifer. Ours average about 90 lbs (with Canadian winter feeding in there - adds BW) and were a...

    Twins

If you have a pair of either heifers or bulls, both calves should be fertile. If you have a heifer and a bull, it is unlikely the heifer will be fertile (although it can happen on occasion - when the calves developed in two separate placentas). Good thread on it here...

    DOCTOR WHO

Our Doctor Who BW's ranged from 92 to 144 pounds, all on cows (that hadn't seen grain since they were yearling heifers). Average BW on 10 calves was obout 110 lbs. I really like his calves, but wouldn't recommend him for use on a first calver.

    Shorty Folks

When I started with Shorthorns, I bought entirely non-asterisk cattle and was advised that anything with the 'star' was 'non-functional.' I remember a specific case where I pointed out an asterisk bull I liked in a magazine and was told a story about asterisks bulls whose legs were too straight...

    RED

My thoughts and prayer's to Red's family as well. I hope you can be comforted by the fact that she touched and inspired so many of us.

Which One Would You Choose? Part II.

Kaboom might be your best bet from the list, although I haven't used him. I would also think there are some good choices not on the list. I would recommend a Sonny son, since the original is too hard to come by (or possibly you could try one of his full brothers). I have always wanted to, but...

    More Calves!!

Thanks for the compliments everyone! As for the white stuf...we don't have as much as JIT, but we've had more than enough white stuff to go around this year! Anyone want to take some??!!!

    More Calves!!

Its that time of the year...so I figured I would join in. Here are a few of our calves from this year: The first two pictures are a shorthorn bull calf sired by Little Cedar Churchill (he's about a month old here), the third picture is a DR World Class Hereford heifer calf (three weeks old) and...

    ok.. wwyd..looking for input

Your heifers sound like they are malnourished. A heifer should be able to easily gain over 2.0 lbs per day (hopefully around 2.5 lbs per day at this stage in the game), putting her somewhere over 1150 lbs. on a high ROUGHAGE diet, nevermind the grain. You SHOULD NOT be giving her hay only as a...

    Your fliers or ads

Here are a couple of ours...The second is the outside of a three-fold brochure... There are some good ones up! Very interesting!!  :)

    Asking Too Much??!!

Actually, we're breeding two/three/four year old cows. I just don't want any monsters ruining cows that have raised us some marketable show calves, which is where the calving ease comes in. Calving ease really comes to mind when you get down to this time of the year. It doesn't seem 'right up...

    Asking Too Much??!!

Thanks, cdn cowboy. I didn't know Select Sires was offering any bulls in Canada, so that might be an option to go on. Let me know how those Jigsaw's turn out! Calving news would be great, I'm going to have to bite the bullet and decide what to order soon.

    Manchild

We had four calves out of him this year...which is not alot to go on, but all of them were out of three quarter sisters. Two solid blacks, one red brockle and a black/white markings with a bit of blue in her. As far as birthweights go, three of them were in the 80# range and came easy. The last...

    Asking Too Much??!!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I'm going to have to do some more research and see what exactly we have available through some of the other distributors that deal with Canadian sales. I believe there are a few of them that are qualified through Semex at least...We will probably try...

    Asking Too Much??!!

Thanks for the suggestions so far. Unfortunately, a few of the bulls you've all been able to throw at me aren't available up here...I'm in the great White north, so we don't have the benefit of as much variety. It is interesting to hear what all you're using and having success with though, as...
