Steer loves to lick my shoes and clothes. Is he lacking some kind of mineral?

My son's market steer is really frustrating me with his lack of eating.  It hit me last night that he must be lacking some time of mineral because he loves to walk up to me while I am in his pen and lick my shoes and coveralls.  He literally tries to put my shoes in his mouth. I have white salt...

Any Knowledge Of What Kind Of Heifers Bart Stover and/or Rusty Turner Likes?

AAOK, I need to say something else.  The individuals I have clip my kids calves are kids as well (teenagers actually and not your typical fitters for hire).  They go to a local college and can no longer show (excluding open shows).  I am glad to give them a chance to keep improving their cattle...

Any Knowledge Of What Kind Of Heifers Bart Stover and/or Rusty Turner Likes?

AAOK, not sure I understand your disgust with my comment.  My kids take care of their animals, do all the work at home and at the shows except for clipping.  They are only 9 and 11 years old so I let them do the washing, blowing out, etc with assistance from me, their father.  I wouldn't expect...

When should a steer going to OYE go into the cooler?

I think since it will get up to the 50s Monday, I will start putting him in the cooler this weekend.  I also started feeding a hair supplement by Sunglo almost two weeks ago.  Hopefully by getting the calf in the cooler this weekend and the supplement without melatonin, I can make sure the calf...

Any Knowledge Of What Kind Of Heifers Bart Stover and/or Rusty Turner Likes?

Okie Girl, we won't go to Durant or Tishamingo the weekend after next because I think I need to give my kids heifers a break from showing so they are ready for their two district shows the first two weekends of February.  Good luck with your steers. Are they prospects or market steers? We...

What Angus Bull should I use on our IAL heifer - Pic of heifer included

A few weeks ago I asked for recommendations on what bull to use on our IAL heifer but I didn't include any pictures of our heifer.  I have decided to go with an Angus bull over all the bulls that were recommend but still unsure which Angus bull to use. I am leaning towards using the Big Softy...

When should a steer going to OYE go into the cooler?

The 90-100 days prior to a show technique is what I used this past summer to get my kids heifers ready for the Tulsa State Fair.  Since the calf is a YAK right now, I didn't know if I should use the same routine or change it up since it is cool out.

When should a steer going to OYE go into the cooler?

I know there are quite a few folks with walk-in coolers on this site.  When should I put my son's steer into the cooler?  His final show is the Oklahoma Youth Expo.  He is sired by Eye Candy and has tons of hair.  This is my first winter to have a cooler and didn't know if I should go ahead and...

Any Knowledge Of What Kind Of Heifers Bart Stover and/or Rusty Turner Likes?

Well, I have been told by some folks that showed cattle for a long time that I need to start doing some research on judges prior to going to a show.  Unfortunately, the past couple of shows I have taken my kids to proved them right.  The heifers my kids show are very thick, big boned, big and...

Steer 3 months from final show - thinking about using stabilized rice bran

My brother's feed store has some called Max-E-Glo Stabilized Rice Bran and it is the meal not the pellets. I will see if VC replies, if not I will PM him.  Thanks.

Steer 3 months from final show - thinking about using stabilized rice bran

I have done some searching on this site regarding Stabilized Rice Bran and I think it would benefit my son's steer.  My son's Eye Candy steer is about 3 months away from its final show and weighs 1255 lbs.  I would say his is approximately 85%-90% finished, lower ribs and flank need more fat. ...

    Lice

I believe CAB is referring to Taktic and I haven't been able to get any for months.  Every store that used to sell it locally said it was discontinued.  I hoped they were wrong but I have not been able to buy any for almost a year.  The stores on-line that used to sell it also say discontinued...

Plan to AI heifer, any experience with I-80, Breathe Easy or OCC Homer?

Big Softy does look like a bull with a bright future ahead of him.

Plan to AI heifer, any experience with I-80, Breathe Easy or OCC Homer?

ZNT, thanks for the picture.  CAB thanks for your comments.  Going into this, I-80 was the one I thought was the most risky but it was not based on really any facts.  I also thought OCC Homer would be the least risky but that was just based off of the bull being a pureblood Angus and the -3.7...

Plan to AI heifer, any experience with I-80, Breathe Easy or OCC Homer?

I have an I Am Legend show heifer that my son shows.  In an effort to prevent the heifer from possibly being injured by a bull, I plan to AI her instead of letting her out with one of our bulls.  My goal is to just have a healthy calf on the ground next fall and a healthy cow able to be bred...

Ways to fill out without using alfalfa

We have had real good luck feeding Purina's Pre-Conditioning Cubes/feed.  I started using it because our feed stores Purina representative told us it works great for adding volume to cattle.  You can get it in 50lb bags and you will need to keep some around because the cattle love it.

Opinion: Do you think a heifer weighing 700lbs should be able to win Supreme

My kids haven't been showing heifers for very long so what my family watched/experienced this past weekend that puzzled me and might happen more often than I realize. This past weekend I watched two very young heifers that might have weighed 700 lbs beat some very high quality heifers that have...

Wanting to buy a bull that meets the following specifics

Thanks for replying to my post.  I gave the information to my cousin.  Didn't know this but my cousin lives near Kris Black and has talked to him about what he is looking for.  At this time Kris Black doesn't have anything that matches what he is looking for.

    Foot Root

NuFlor is also good for hoof  rot.  Also, our vet gave our calves an implant that will give him three dosages over a certain period of time.  Sorry, at this time I don't know the name.  I will have to dig out my receipt.  Don't let the problem linger because it could end up moving up into the...

Wanting to buy a bull that meets the following specifics

I have a cousin that is interested in buying a bull and he asked me to do some searching for him.  In an effort to speed up my research, I am asking the folks of Steer Planet to let me know if they have a bull for sale that meets his requirements: Color:  White One of the following bloodlines...
