Clemson Sale Consignments - April 26th

Great looking animals folks!  Also welcome to the site Jasmar, it's always great seeing pictures of some Durango progeny.  Wish I was able to make it to the sale this weekend.  I also wish I had more room to have more cows.  If I were in a better position to have more animals, I believe I...

What would be your dream mating?

Hi folks, Don't know if this has ever been posted on here before or not.  I apologize if it has.    Just wondering what would be some dream matings of your alls choice?  Everyone is allowed to use their imagination on this one.  It doesn't matter if you do or do not own semen on a certain...

What is your comfort food on a rainy day?

I'm kinda surprised that I have not already seen this one listed on here, however my comfort food on a rainy day is pizza.  However, pizza is comfort food for me on any type of day.    ;D

    CCS Irish Dimension

I was wondering if anyone knows the current TH and PHA Status on the Shorthorn bull "CCS Irish Dimension"? I've got a guy who offered to sell me some semen on him, and was wanting to know his status before I purchase it.  Thanks.

    Linebreeding question

JIT, I've been meaning to ask you about the Leroy daughter out of Sparkle.  I think Roan Delight looks just like her mother, except she is a darker roan.  I would definitely keep Roan Delight around as a future donor cow.

    Linebreeding question

I hear ya there Doc!  I'm sure you've noticed that when it comes to the Irish Shorthorns, Deerpark Leader works really well when it comes to line breeding.

    Linebreeding question

I have known of folks who have bred a bull back to his mother before, and have ended up producing a really cracker jack animal.  I was wondering if there are any folks on here who have ever bred a bull to his full sister before.  If so how did it work out for ya?

    Charolais and Shorthorn

Nice, very nice.  I really like the color.  You've got me wanting to do a mating like that.    (thumbsup)

    odds on color!

The Roan patterns, and mixed colors are one of the things that I have always liked about the Shorthorn Breed.  Shorthorns can sometimes be like a "Box of Chocolates", you never know what you might get......... (lol) I've got two blue roans right now, and have thought about mating them to...

    Lethal Weapon

Not for sure what breed this bull is.  I believe he is a Chiangus bull. Does anyone on here know anything about this bull?  Thanks.

    Charolais and Shorthorn

Hi Shortdawg, Yes, I can picture a yellow roan.  Matter as fact I know of people who have had yellow roans from crossing a Charolais and Shorthorn before.  Back when I lived in North Carolina, there was a gentleman who lived in East Bend who had a fairly large Shorthorn Operation.  His name...

    Ripped Ear

If it was not a show animal, I wouldn't have even worried with it, however since it is a show heifer I agree with Doc......sew it.  I have seen where ear tags have been ripped out of the ears of other animals many times before.

    MF Pacer cow

GB, First of all , a lot of those guys you mentioned I have met. I geuss if all those guys with "common sense" are dead , I geuss the rest of us people with no common sense need to just to go ahead & hang it up. As far as that big Durango calf goes , I presume it was all the bulls' fault. I'm...

Here is a different breed of cattle (Speckle Park Cattle)

I was just thinking the same thing you were thinking also. I would also be interested in raising some Speckle Park cows, and once in awhile crossing a few with some purebred Shorthorn Bulls ever so often.

Here is a different breed of cattle (Speckle Park Cattle)

Thanks for your input JIT, it is always appreciated. I take it that Speckle Park Cattle are homozygous blue roans then.  I do know that it is sometimes hard to get a consistent blue roan color when breeding a black animal to a Shorthorn cow.  Just curious to know if you have ever considered...

Here is a different breed of cattle (Speckle Park Cattle)

Here is another link. Check out the Donor Cows on this page.  Especially the two cows, "Codiak Karmen 32K" and "Codiak Mindbender 59M". http://www.specklepark.com.au/donors.htm

Here is a different breed of cattle (Speckle Park Cattle)

Has anyone on here ever heard of the "Speckle Park Cattle" breed before?  Apparently it is kind of a rare breed which was developed up in Canada which seems to have a huge Shorthorn influence.  Coming from someone who loves Blue Roans, I think these animals are beautiful. I would also be...

    Farm Therapy

I couldn't agree more with this subject. I mentioned an old friend of mine in another post who unfortunately had to give up the farm life 14 years ago.  His life has been filled with depression ever since, and he still yearns to be involved in the farm life again, however he tells me due to his...
