We had a Tyson calf last year - we'll use him again.  She's not a "show" heifer, but doesn't do to bad - usually the middle of her class.  We're keeping her for a replacement heifer - she's also 25% shorthorn

Our county fair (North Central Ohio) is 8 and 3rd grade.  However, my son has been showing since he was 5 as of Jan. 1 (he is now 7) and cannot wait to hit the show ring at the County Fair.  But safety has to come first - we make sure both kids' calves are super quiet and calm or they don't show...

My daughter's steer is an extremely picky eater - fed him oxy explosion for 1 month and he put on 3 lbs per day.  I skipped a couple of weeks (I had to order it in) and his ADG dropped to just under a lb. a day.  Started feeding it again and he is back up to 2.7 lbs. gain per day.

Our county sends out a letter with what you can be expected to know - usually goes by age division (with the younger getting the easier questions).  but the things on the letter for this year are parts of the steer, feed identification, cuts of meat, breed identification, how to tie a steer up...
