I have neighbor who has horses and raises a couple steers each year.  She swears Rice Bran is a great additive to the steers diet.  Just curious what any of you think about this.  ???

Nothing like that here in WA.  We have been getting tons of precipitation though!  10 inches plus (rain) in the last week.  The Mt Pass recieved 72 inches (not a typo) of snow last week alone with another 18 inches predicted today!  They're setting all kinds of records.

Here in WA there are plenty of trees and I worked in the woods during the summer while going to college.  I use a stihl chainsaw and I like to think I'm good with it.  So I chose Stihlpro  ;D

According to the bulls you listed you seem pretty focused on using a clubby bull on your clubby heifer.  I have had most luck using Angus or Sim-Angus bulls on my clubby females.  Very little birthweight issues and calves grow well.  Especially if you are trying to breed a heifer, you really...

Thanks for the info!  The only bull I've used on the list is Paddy O'Malley.  I got 3 solid steers out of him this year and 2 of the 3 seem to be headed in the right direction.  Thanks again. ;D

Nothing yet; the early season was slow here (WA)!  Late season starts Thursday (we get 4 days)......... Last 3yrs the late season has been very generous!  ;D ;D ;D

The news did a follow up report tonight and showed a picture (live not dead) of the heifer.  It was a Red Brangus heifer who the owners had taken over 3 hours away to get bred by a specific bull.  It had been lost for two weeks.............must have traveled to the end of the world and gave up!

I have a 5 month old steer I am halter breaking and I just discovered he has horns/scurs about the size of my pinkie fingernail.  What is the best way to get rid of them? (Never had to deal with horns before)  Will the paste work?

I think you have to remember that some of these kids are away from home for the first time and extremely excited.  Some have never been in the type of situation away from home and momentairly forget the certain behaviors that are expected.  Not to condone their behavior, but I have seen some...

I agree......had some small calves out of both and some larger (over 95 lbs).  I'm not a risk taker so I would stay clear of both on heifers.

There are plenty of jobs out there in the Ag ED field.  I have been teaching AG for 8 years and have experienced it to the fullest.  If you enjoy working around kids and Ag there is no more perfect fit.  On the other hand, if you are driven to be successful, it becomes more than a job........ it...
