    When to Ultrasound Preg Check

Bulls were put in 7-10 days after AI/ET for most of our cows while some of the later bred recipients did not get a full cycle with the clean up bull because I want to keep a 60 day calving season. 60 days of calving club calves  is enough for me. ;) Thanks

    When to Ultrasound Preg Check

If my cows are 85 to 45 days past AI/Embryos is now a good time to ultrasound preg check? I don't care if they can be sexed but really need to know if they are AI or clean up bull bred so next spring I know when they are supposed to calve. Bulls were pulled 30 days ago.

    Slick vs Hair shows

One way to make it a little more even is to make it just exhibitor only fitting at the junior shows. So Suzy has to fit Suzy's calf and Johnny has to fit his own calf. No having dad or mom or hired help who has done it forever doing it for the kid. While this may seem not fair for younger...

    Cool Bot

When you mean feeder calves in the room do you mean just calves (700 lbs or less) or fat steers (1250 lbs)? I have a cooler but looking to help out a buddy looking to do one and this might be the ticket using a coolbot.

    Equipment/Facilities.......Can't Live without?

www.grandin.com The designs are great on here and in her book she has some layouts for smaller producers for 25 cows and such. I would highly recommend her designs book. Her designs might be more than what you are looking for but pieces of them would help tremendously.

What would you rather compete in?

CAB you are right on that. Some of the Maine classes are just as tough too. The Chi division is tough and with heifers I would go commerical rather than chi at tough shows.

    Selling calves?

This has crossed just about everyone's mind that sells calves. Trouble is that I haven't thought of a way to do it that is fair to those who bid/buy your cattle and to yourself. Normally for what I have seen those who don't have success will normally change who they get calves from because they...

    Marketing calves?

Pictures Pictures Pictures,...  You need to get good pictures of your calves. You need to realize how many people try to raise good show calves and how you need to set yourself apart from the others. You need to convince them they need to come look at your calves. A person's word is only worth...

    Milkman or Alias?

I like the Milkmans. Here is one of our heifers out of a purebred charolais. Just took the picture this morning. She had even better hair a month ago but she is starting to shed out now. Her mother had nice hair and if you are looking to have hair the cow better have some. I am not saying he...

    Prolapsed Uterus Advice?

I would suggest not having her bred either way. If she prolapsed once she is very likely to prolapse again and again. It is also likely to pass on to further generations so her heifer calves would be prone to prolapsing. I had one cow this spring that was producing good at 8 years old prolapse...

    Information on pasture economics

Could someone help me find information on what pasture is worth for a grazing cow? We have some land that is good heavy soil that is currently in crop production while some of it is hay in strips that I was wondering if it would be economically feasible to turn into pasture. It is real heavy...

    Serious need to gain weight

You might want to check out Glu coat for some fat cover.( http://www.sullivansupply.com/Iowa/detail.aspx?ID=14069) Also, you need to feed about 6-7 pounds of feed per pound of gain so your steer should gain about 3 pounds a day right now. I would consider getting him implanted with Revolar S for...

    Implanting young calves

Does anyone implant their future sale calves while still on the cow? Looking at steers only but figure if they don't sell or if they can be bigger at sale time it should be a good thing right? Or do you worry that they won't gain well if future buyer doesn't implant them after you sell or that...
