    Club Calf Cows

Totally agree!! Unless you want to end up with bunch of cripples then stay away from the club calf cows! I'm more prone to Angus crosses. That's just IMO cause that's what we raise along with registered Angus. We keep our registered bred to registered with the exception of one because club bulls...

Thanks for the pic! Not a bad looking heifer! <cowboy> Would like to see more pics as she grows! Sorry to hear your other one aborted!! The thing we all dread either that or a dead calf! I know what you mean about the mud! It's never ending. Looking forward to some freezing temperatures to...

    Favorite Breed of Cattle

HMM not a bad topic. I tend to like Angus B/R, Limflex, Belties and Simmys.  (pop)

    Buying Open Heifers

I have to agree. Find a reputable breeder. If you go to a reputable breeder they don't want to sell crap cattle because it will ruin their reputation. Hoover Dam Angus is out your way. I don't know how close but contact them too. Very nice people to talk to. They do have a sale coming up but...

    Buying Open Heifers

I have to agree with their statements! I wouldn't waste my money on an open heifer when you can get a good cow already bred. If you buy an open heifer you will be putting in the money to feed and what not, then you will have to wait to breed them. I would go with something that has had at least...

    Breaking Bulls

I agree what you wrote too. I guess it's everyone's personal preference. The guy I had helped out these bulls were 3 years old been shown since day one. Some of the nicer bulls I have come across. Fitting them was easier than most of the cows or heifers. (lol) Even out in the fields never had a...

    Breaking Bulls

Your welcome!  ;D Another thing he would do too is couple of weeks before show time he would put all his show cattle in there stalls during the day and put the rings in on the bulls. He had an awesome set up! He had like 15 stalls and they were nice. All had fans and all and of course the...

    Breaking Bulls

When he would work with them he would put them in so they would be used to it and take them out when he was done. Nothing like trying to throw something new in when you are getting ready to go into the ring. ;)

    Breaking Bulls

When I used to show I would help a guy and he used removable rings for the shows. Didn't need to have a permanent one cause they were so docile. Is he pretty quiet? I know some people like to have them just to have more control. The permanent ones that is. Would love to see a pic of him. Good luck.

    How to AI?

We have a small herd too and we have several people who can come out for us and do it. My dad and I thought about one of us going to AI school but the advise we got was wait til we have more cattle. You need to keep up with the practice. Which makes sense. The more you do the better you get. We...

    help!

Just one more thing too. I did put another calf in the paddock with mine just so she had company. It helped.

    help!

On top of what Simmgal added if you have a small paddock or barn area try to keep her in there. That's what I did with mine and it worked. I gave them hay and feed as well so they wouldn't get bored and water of course. Check your buckle too. It may seem tight to you but not on the calf. Hope...
