    SAV Bismarck Female

I agree with cowboy nyk on everything he said. I have to calves out of first calf heifers that both break a little behind their shoulders. He definately brings some nice things to the table tho. As he said the calves are rocket fronted and what really got me was the amount of rib shape these...

    HC Power Drive

Got talkin to a friend about this today and made me think a little bit. Power Drive was a breed changer for the simmi's and made awesome females. Why don't we see more of his clone being used? Why don't we see more of the clone in the pedigrees of females that are selling? Just got me thinkin a...

    First calf heifers

Just curious what people expect from their first calf heifers when weaning calves in the fall? Do you still expect them to bring a calf in that is half their body weight?

    Dehorning Question

I am an Angus breeder so this is unfamiliar territory for me on the show side of things, but I purchased some pb simmi embryos in a sale a couple winters ago and just weaned the calf off the cow and noticed she had scurs. Havent decided if I am going to keep her or sell her yet, but would like...

Muck Boot fund raises for HSUS

Here is an official statement make by Muck Boots: A few days ago we made a series of mistakes here and on our other social media channels. Words can’t express how sorry we are that we’ve caused so much disappointment in our brand. There’s been a lot of speculation as to what happened, and...

Muck Boot fund raises for HSUS

This was posted on the I Am Agriculture Blog from the director of footwear at Muck: "Thanks for your post Ryan. Needless to say, yesterday was not a good day for us and certainly not our social media team. We made a mistake — ok several — and for that we’re really, really sorry. Truth be told...

Muck Boot fund raises for HSUS

I figured xbar would have this kind of opinion on something like this. It doesn't matter if they make the best boots there are some out there that are comparable and the company does not bite the hand that feeds them. I'm sure every farmer rancher has had a pair of mucks at one point or another...

    Looking for Upcoming Show Steer

Not trying to bring you down at all but I truely believe you are going to have a hard time finding a quality animal for under 2K this year. Weaned calves are bringing 1500 at the sale barn this year. I know that for me any of my calves are starting at 2K if they are halter broke because Im...

    Breeding

I know a person should wait around 60 days postpartum before you try to breed a cow but I am curious what people's luck has been breeding on the first heat postpartum? I was out in the lot and one of my cows calved on June 13th. I just happened to be walking through and saw she had a mucus...

    what hay to plant

Well first your not going to be able to reseed alfalfa into alfalfa because of alfalfa autotoxicity. You will need to put it into corn or soybeans for a year before reseeding it. I live in northeast iowa and most beef producers, including myself, are planting an alfalfa, Timothy, brome or fescue...

    ear tag issues

Have you tried one piece tags? We use Z Tags and I personally think they are great! You dont have to try and find the buttons when it is time to breed which I think is great! We have been using them for the last 4 years on our 100 head cow herd and I can count on one hand the number of cows we...

    my simangus breeding heifer

By looking at your pictures of her on the profile I would suggest to start feeding her something to get her guts to expand becuase she doesnt look like she has as much belly as she did as a younger calf. I would start mixing some depth charge and free choice grass hay along with what you are...

    Poor Conception Rates...

What is the definition of "Maternal" when pertaining to cows?

I have thought a lot about this topic since I saw it. I guess I look at maternal more of an adjective to describe features of a cow/heifer. Maternal to me would be a good set of feet and legs that would allow her to move freely, with a nice neck tying into a smooth shoulder with a ton of rib...

What do you think about my new hiefer?

Well thank you for the complement AAOK. I was just talking to a buddy of mine today about the show we are taking her to this weekend and I was saying Im hoping the judge is more of a breeding cattle type vs a clubby guy and he told me he thought either type of judge would really like her because...

    Angus Heifer Progression

I was wondering if she was one of your Patron daughters. I was trying to think back to the thread where you had pictures of a few different heifers but couldn't remember. Nothing wrong with those easy feeding calves either! I would rather have an easy feeder than one that you really have to push...

    Angus Heifer Progression

I really like her! What is the breeding on her? I like how long bodied she is but she doesnt seen to give up any middle. I also really like how long necked she is. If I wanted to get really picky i guess i would maybe clean up her neck a little bit, but like I said that would be getting pretty...

What do you think about my new hiefer?

I didnt cut her feed real hard a couple pounds, but then added in a about a pound of winning fill back in. And your right we have been walking her for a couple miles a day now for the last week and a half and it is definately helping. The problem I have is that I work everyday and this spring...

What do you think about my new hiefer?

She may be have a tick to much cover for my liking but we have her on a diet and an exercise plan. Our county fair is the last week of June and we are shooting for that ideally, but depending on how she does this weekend will kind of determine if we haul her down to the Iowa State Fair or not.
