    heifer with possible problems

I have felt this in cows before, were there knots in her colon or just on the outside?  Two different vets have told me that 1) it can (very rarely) be warts and they can sometimes form in the very end of the colon or that 2) it is a viral infection similar to whichever herpes it is that causes...

2011 Alachua County Fair Champion Steer

congrats!!  we sold a steer that won state carcass a few years ago and it's pretty sweet.  For those of y'all that don't know, all of the county fairs and any show that collects carcass data in the state reports that data to the extension service and they and the cattlemen select a grand...

    Semen Inventory

wouldn't a homemade spreadsheet with columns for bull name, cane code, tank (if you have multiple ones), rack, and quantity be enough?  That's what I use anyways

    A.I. School

I would contact your local sales rep for several of the semen distributors, they should be able to tell you if there is one closer to you, people from your area should be able to comment on here who that would be

    we got Bin Laden

true, I wasn't criticizing you (and sorry for the atrocious spelling of your name) but the thought of the millions of chinese soldiers that I am sure have no love for us sure doesn't help me sleep any better at night

    ? about creep feed philosophy

We have always fed an approximately 18% protein 4% fat feed for creep feed but recently I have been thinking about a more concentrated feed with the theory that the calves will get more raw nutrients from a more concentrated feed while needing to eat less.  Am I on the right track or would it...

    Showing with ear tags

No problem with it at all but CLEAN THE TAG!!!!!! I can't tell y'all how many kids I have reminded to wipe their ear tags off and clean em up so they don't look cruddy.  It completely ruins a well groomed calf to have a nasty tag in their ear.  We do tag in the left ear so that it doesn't flash...

    Supplements- what do you use?

If you can find a vigortone mineral to add to your feed it can have ICE in it, other than That I believe you would have to contact the local sales rep and he could probably get you some straight ice

Everyone alright in the Southern States?

we lost a fence and some trees to a small twister but no stock or human life.  Got up with some friends just north of Cullman, AL and they lost their working barn that houses all of their facilities, their hydraulic chute was 3 miles away in the crow of a red oak, again no livestock or people...

    Sweat Collar for show heifer!!

we usually do it about 6 weeks before a show just to see how long it will take to get them where we want them, it should take around a week, then judge from that on when to do it before a show, I add 2 days to the time it took a month ago.  as far as low on the brisket I'm not sure about that. ...

    Sweat Collar for show heifer!!

use enough hot sweat to really moisten the skin and hair when you put it on, it may be too much but a good slick layer has always worked for us.  I would leave it for 2 hours at a time, let the skin air out for 30 minutes, and reapply.  Do this for up to 12 hours during the day depending on how...

    Malpractice? Advice- Calving loss. .....nightmare

I think everyone is in agreement that the calf was too big, the problem is that if the vet had been prepared as he was payed to be then there would be a nice calf in the pasture right now rather than buried in the back 40 because the man didn't have one of his very most basic tools, and...

    Malpractice? Advice- Calving loss. .....nightmare

If you lost the calf and knew it then why didn't you use the wire saw and piece him out rather than slit her open?    Not a drop of criticism in this just curiosity
