    Feeding show heifers

My daughter, my neighbor's kid and 2 of my daughters friends have Apr. yearling Angus 4-H heifers that they want to show in about 75 days time.  These heifers are out on a small orchard grass pasture by themselves and are in good breeding shape.  They would weigh about 900 lbs.  I know that to...

    ATTN: Shorthorn Breeders

Head to Alberta, Canada and talk to Robert and Ken Morison at Eionmor Shorthorns.  You will find what you are looking for in volume.  They have a pretty good website.  Google Eionmor Shorthorns and I think you will be able to find it.

    Angus bulls

I used TC Advantage on a bunch of commercial heifers and a handful of purebred heifers a number of years ago.  He did what I wanted, heifers all calved unassisted with average calves.  I have a couple of commercial young cows and one purebred young cow.  They are average cows with really good...

    Developing show heifers

I am not a show cattle person.  I run commercial cows and a few PB Angus cows and run a small feedlot.  My daughter and a few of her friends have 4-H heifers at my place that are currently weighing 800 lbs in moderate condition.  These are PB Angus april yearlings that have been grown out on...

    AI and ET Techs

I worked as an AI/ET tech for 8 years after completing high school and 2 years of ag college.  Was a fantastic job.  Good pay, excellent people and exposure to more cows and people than you could shake a stick at.  I can't think of a better job for someone who wants to run cows fulltime eventually.

Any thoughts on what day to wean?

I always try to wean calves ahead of cold, dry weather.  However it is important that there is a moon in the sky as well.  Come to think about it, a sun is good too!

    Frozen Ears..

Pantyhose.  Slip a leg over the calf's head and cut the end of the toe off for the nose/eyes to go through.

Heifer's vulva is HUGE, could anyone tell me what the problem could be?

Watch your feed.  Sounds like a mycotoxin thing to me.  Those of us that have fed hogs probably have seen a similar thing in gilts (or maybe I'm the only one who has ever had some crappy feed......)

The Quest for the Blue Roans--further examples

I have had the best luck getting blue roans by using Black Simmental bulls on roan Shorthorn cow.  Using one particular bull that I own, I would say that I get 50% blues.

Would A blue bull on black calves make a blue calf?

Thanks MVT Farms.  I just know enough about computers to be dangerous.  This heifer is out of a homo black Simmental bull I used.   On Shorthorn cows, he threw about 50% blue calves.  Used on roan cows, I'd get good blues pretty well every time.

Would A blue bull on black calves make a blue calf?

Would love to post pictures of some blue calves but can't figure out how to do it.  Anybody care to help a computer idiot out????  Pictures are stuck in my computer and I need somebody to tell me precisely how to get them posted.
