    Breeding Help

What breed are they? What age? What is their current weight? What are you feeding currently?

Steer has Excessive Gas and the Runs

Wouldn't hurt to have your vet run a fecal analysis on him just to rule out any parasites of any sort or bacterial overgrowth.  Baking soda with his grain is a good idea.

    Straw is my enemy :(

Eating straw won't hurt them if they do it just at shows.  I wouldn't sweat the small stuff!  It will give them a full appearance!

Anyone with experience using sexed semen?

You can either breed her at 2 intervals to increase your odds,  I have double dosed with good success.  Some people also use a dose of sexed plus a dose of conventional.  The odds for the sexed goes down but the odds of her sticking increases.  If getting her bred now is a priority this might be...

    Pour-On Dewormer's burning backs

Pour-ons can cause problems.  Make sure you apply a long strip down the topline not just a bunch in one spot and try not to do it on a sunny day.  An overcast or cloudy day (or do late afternoon/evening) will help.  You may still get a bit of reaction but not as severe.

Cow 19 Days post-partum in Standing Heat

She may be OK but when she's this early why risk it - are you not better to let that repro tract heal for another heat cycle then breed her then?  IMO

    Aborting Pregnancy

You may not be successful aborting them if they are in the middle trimester.  Certainly hit them with the dex if further along (its a steroid) but you still may not have success if they are 4-5 months bred.

    Heifer scared of small people

Kids around cattle (just like kids around dogs) you need to keep in mind what the animal is seeing and hearing......in general young kids are quicker moving, jumping, darting and have a higher pitched voice (sometimes even the odd squeal).  Animals that are nervous around them are often reacting...

Blood shot eyes in new born calf

The bloodshot eyes are not uncommon in newborns especially if it the cow was pushing hard.  Do you mean there is a white film???  Shouldn't be pinkeye yet - a photo of the eye would really help.

    One of those tough days

You were blessed to have had a faithful companion for so long....and your dear friend was lucky to have known such love.  May the happy memories you shared always bring a smile to your face and a warmth to your heart.

    Over-grown hooves

Hoof growth (just like hair or fingernail growth in people) can certainly vary from individual to individual in a group.  We have found it to have a genetic component for sure.  Some of our cattle never need to be trimmed but we have 1 that does need a trim twice a year....and now her daughters...

    Calves keep growing warts

Had this same problem a few years back.  After searching online for answers and actually needing the vet out to knock down a show heifer to remove a huge one from her lower leg along with about 50 others we chopped up the warts and fed them back to her after taking some of them and rubbing them...

    Needle Size

Don't use anything less that 1 1/2 inch for hormone injections (and you always want the smallest gauge you can easily inject through) - you want a deep IM injection for proper absorbtion.  Also have to agree with Lucky_P on the beef QA guidelines.  Just cause 'that was what we have always done...

    Injectin Site for Newborns

If you hit a nerve you would see signs early rather than later.  Mild nerve damage could be on the mend in the time frame you list, not the reverse.  I think you are probably looking at an injury of some sort separate from needling.

    Injectin Site for Newborns

I always use the neck.  There is a triangular area of muscle above the jugular vein, in front of the shoulder.  Always draw back on your plunger of the syringe to ensure you are not getting any blood.  A&D and E-Sel products need to be given IM but if you can use any product that can go subQ...

What do you think of the website I made?

I've been looking into the wix websites - yours looks great.  They look fairly easy to put together.

    Bull calf name

You could follow his lineage instead of simply going on the words of his name. ie/  Payday----Windfall---->  Call him 'In The Money' or 'On The Money' or 'Jackpot'

Herd Management Software or App for Android

Looking for an inexpensive herd management software.  Don't have a large herd but would like to track repro/health/pedigrees etc by computer.  Any suggestions?

    HELP-wedding ring inside of cow

I'm sorry - couldn't help grinning as I read through this post (being a 'Wife' and all!!!)    ;) All kidding aside, contact your vet for advice.  It would be unfortunate if for whatever reason the ring could not be retrieved and interfered with further pregnancies!  Would have to question if a...
