Is this a fertile heat or not.  Cow calved May 3.  We have synced other cows, and this cow has been active with a couple of them when they come in.  Tonight she is standing 19 days after calving and has clear discharge.  We plan to put an embryo in her.  Is it too soon and throwing away an embryo, or could this be real?  This would move her up 60 days from her calving date this year.

She may be OK but when she's this early why risk it - are you not better to let that repro tract heal for another heat cycle then breed her then?  IMO

It may be a real heat but I would wait for another heat. Our ET guys like 2 heats after calving for a embryo, unless its not a very valuable one.

I have bred several cows over the years at 18-20 days post partum and had them conceive with no problems. One year, I had a set of 10 later calving cows that I kept on a small pasture around our yard, mainly to keep the grass under control. I decided to do a bit of an experiment using CIDRs for the 3rd time. I put them in the 10 cows and sync'd them and all 10 came in heat. All were bred AI and 9 out of the 10 conceived . They had all calved in May that year, and the 9 that conceived all calved in March the following year so I actually gained 2 months on them. I know the ET vets prefer to wait 2 months, but I think in many cases it is OK to breed them earlier than this especially if the cows are gaining weight and flushed well.
