    What would you do??

Well, shes still down, was given calcium glouconate, dexamethasone, and still hasnt calved. We are waiting on her to either calve (the calf is still live), or for her to go so far down that we can't get her back and c section her. We are hopeful that she might get up once she calves. We shall...

What was the outcome on this? I have a calf that was csection, lost the cow, that has swollen hock joint. Nothing else, frisky, just some swelling. Calf was about 10 days early.

Quallity of animals sold as blue ribbon beef

Many fairs here in California use an ultrasound system, for all animals. Ribeye size, marbling, and back fat are all tested. No animal that doesn't meet the appropriate standards are sent through the sale.

We have a 40' overseas container that we converted into our butcher shop. The back half is the cooler, cool'd with a refigeration unit that is electric. The front half is the shop portion. The floor is cemented, with an overlay type, slight grade to it, for drainage. Windows for ventalation...

What is in your first aid box?

We use it in conjunction with the jeans for eyes.... We ran out of eye glue, and there are no suppliers nearby at all, so off to the auto parts store. Works well.

What is in your first aid box?

We'll being that we are butchers that raise our own cattle, the gun, saws, knifes, tarp and gamble are always handy.  (clapping)    I have now learned to keep calcium gluconate, dexamethasone and colostrum in the first aid box as well. We always have iodine, old jeans, heavy duty auto adhesive...

What is in your first aid box?

What do you have in your first aid box for the ranch animals? Just curious. With all the calves coming, cow issues, what do you have in your box?

    What would you do??

We have a 9yr old cow, AI'd to calve in 3 days. She was found down with bloat yesterday. We got her bloat down, antibiotic'd her and got her on her sturnum.  She wouldn't get and up and still won't get up. We tried slinging her to get her on her feet to no avail. She is eating and drinking, and...

I am glad that it was posted. I had no clue what it was, but it makes one more aware of the practices that some chose to act out.

    Sunglo Epic and Full Tank

What are the ingredients in the Full Tank product? We have used Sumo, but found that the same thing can be purchased directly from the dairies for much cheaper - well out here in CA, much cheaper. There are very limited distributors out here, so getting the product is tough. If anyone can take...

    Angus Breeding Question

I would say 095, Objective, MF Destroyer. The 095 and Destroyer bull will give some thickness, Objective is a nice all round carcuss bull. 5175 is a huge growth bull, so backing off from the growth is needed. 004 makes nice babies, but he has a flawed ribeye with a hook in it, that explains why...

    Feed storage

We have a 5ton silo that most of the time we get it delivered full. However, with these economic times, we have resorted to using large 1k totes. 2 totes will fit in the back of our shortbed chevy when we pick it up. We pay roughly $350 a ton for steer feed right now, and it has gone down since...

What's Your Secret Winning Combo? Will You Share?

I was just wondering what everyone's actual breakdown of feed is for their steers and heifers. What percentage of roughage/ grain/ filler/ ect do you use? Do you change the percentages around once they get to a certain weight? How different is it feeding heifers vs steers? I know this info is...

    Time AI?

This is the only way that we can AI, using CIDR and Lute. We live where we can't see our cows and heifers on a daily right out of window situation. We have a really good take of our heifers and a good take on cows. We have only been able to AI a few cows without the CIDR's because it just so...

    Selenium Blouses

Well, no other leads. Cost from California Cattlemen's Association is $210 for 60 nonmember and $180 for 60 for member. Here in CA they ship out no problem. We give them to all our females. The reproduction rate, and still birth rate drastically decreases when we bolous vs, when they were not...
