Need Help - newly sheared steer going bonkers!

After we slick shear for our Texas shows we rinse and apply Maine and Tail conditioner.  Let it sit on the calf for about 30 minutes and then rinse thoroughly.  This should help him considerably.  His skin could be razor burned also, which itches and burns.  We do the conditioner thing every day...

    Stabilized Rice Bran Question

I get mine at Tractor Supply.  It's around $22. for a 40 lb bag.  It is a fat supplement for race horses - so look for a horse on the bag.  Our calves have always seemed to like the meal better than the pellets, however they are eating pellets now, because TS was out of the meal!!  If your TS...

    Bracing too hard???

My daughter is showing goats this year for the first time.  She is 10 yrs. old.  Her goats are bracing really good, but the problem is that they are pushing her back when they brace.  Is there a way to train them not to overpower her?

    Stabilized Rice Bran Question

Agree with vc.  We usually feed last 60 days at 1 lb per feeding.  Really like the way it lays down the cover.

    Troubador steer - Opinions please

Lots of lookers, but few replies...... you all are getting me worried!   Is he that bad or is everyone too busy??   Thanks to those that have commented.   Rackranch - we have not given him anything extra to expand his belly - it's just very large.  He does like his hay, maybe we should limit...

    Troubador steer - Opinions please

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this with Troubadors, or if it is just this calf, but the most feed he has ever had was 18 lbs per day.  Right now we have him on 16 lbs per day of his ration, and adding 1.5 lb.s steam flaked corn, 1.5 lbs. crimped barley and 1 lb rice bran.  He...

    Troubador steer - Opinions please

This is my son's Troubador steer: August born, weighs 1170 now.  Plan to show him at our local show in early March and possibly take him to Houston.  Our local show is slick.  He has not been clipped, and had just been rinsed and brushed in the pictures.  Let me know what you all think about...

    Troubadour x Foreplay ET Calf

I believe you sent me a picture of this calf when I was looking to buy for my son this past spring.  I loved the look of him, but was concerned about those back legs.  They looked really straight in the earlier pic.  Our calf last year had structure issues with his front legs, which left us gun...

Max E Glo (stabilized rice bran-meal) any users?

Great stuff!  This is our 3rd year using it on steers.  Puts a nice smooth finish on em.  We start 2-3 months prior to show and build up slowly to 2 lbs. a day.  You can get the pellets or meal at TSC, but the meal is a few bucks cheaper per bag.  I tried both and they seem to eat the meal...

    Short tail?

My son's steer this year had an extremely short switch.  We started putting people hair conditioner on him daily, or as often as possible, leave it sit for a while ( 15 mins. or more) and then rinse.  It has really helped put a few inches on the switch, so hopefully it won't be so noticeable.

Stab. Rice Bran for goats and lambs??

We have used Stabilized Rice bran the last 2 yrs. with our steers and been very pleased.  This year our daugther is showing goats.  Wondering if the SRB can be used to put finish on the goats?  Anyone used it for goats or lambs or any other show animal??

    Those that have Troubador calves

So, rackranch - have you found more excercise to be helpful in keeping the pasterns from popping?  I did a search on here, but don't recall excercise being mentioned.  I was wondering if it would help.  I gave ours a selenium bolus, but did not see any improvment.  I am having my son walk him a...

    Those that have Troubador calves

Ours is deep and wide, but not much hair - of course we show slick so other than a fan to help keep him a little more comfortable in the Tx. heat, and routine brushing, we have not been worried about the hair.  We bought the steer, so this could be from the momma.  Ours also has a really short...

Not cattle, but still in need of advise- Equine

Teeth definitely need to be floated, if you have never had it done, or it's been a long time.  You don't mention how long you have had the horses, or if you have done any health/dental care.  Get the teeth done and get them wormed.  Also, don't know where you are located.  In Texas we are in...

    SHOW DAY SUPPLEMENT

Sounds like Essential Keep'n On - Sullivan's sells it.  It is supposed to provide body fill w/o weight.  You give it 1 or 2 hours before the show and then again 15 mins.  Don't know if it works - considering trying it this year.  Anyone have experience with it?

    Bloated steer need help

We have had good luck with putting a bloat block in the pen, and letting them have free access to it.  I put a block in as soon as I see a mild bloat.  Never had a severe bloat.  How's your calf?

    big switches

We have a steer this year that was born with a very short switch and someone recently told us that they have had very good luck with this: when rinsing daily, apply human hair conditioner to the switch, let sit for 10+ minutes and then rinse.  I don't guess it will work miracles, but will...
