This is my son's Troubador steer: August born, weighs 1170 now.  Plan to show him at our local show in early March and possibly take him to Houston.  Our local show is slick.  He has not been clipped, and had just been rinsed and brushed in the pictures.  Let me know what you all think about him, and if you think it's worth the trip to Houston.

I really like your steer, he looks like a real meat wagon! I'd like to see him after you slick him

Don't know if anyone else has experienced this with Troubadors, or if it is just this calf, but the most feed he has ever had was 18 lbs per day.  Right now we have him on 16 lbs per day of his ration, and adding 1.5 lb.s steam flaked corn, 1.5 lbs. crimped barley and 1 lb rice bran.  He continues to gain well.  We plan to put him on either Showflexx or Showmaxx soon to convert to muscle.

He looks good and should do well with you for you in the ring. Wants you get him trimmed up I'm sure he will look even better.

I would like some of your luck... Our Troubador is not finishing out well at all.  We were hoping to have him ready for our county show in Jan. but now I'm slotting him for Houston in March.. He reminds me of the Yellow Jacket steer we sold in Houston last year..

There is a lot of middle on your steer, kinda makes him look short and stocky.  After you slick him off you might play with that center some and see if he looks longer sided with a little less center of body to him.. JMO  G-Luck

Lots of lookers, but few replies...... you all are getting me worried!   Is he that bad or is everyone too busy??

Thanks to those that have commented.

Rackranch - we have not given him anything extra to expand his belly - it's just very large.  He does like his hay, maybe we should limit his intake??

Also, does anyone have any experience with Zilmax helping to clean up his brisket?

The Troubadours that i have raised and sold all seem to get really fat on about that same amount of feed , including one that looks like a carbon copy of yours , i think you should put him on Showmaxx 45 days prior to the show . I calf in my avatar is a Troubadour that i kept for a bull , i didn't feed him alot through the summer .. he's on about 18 lbs/day now and really gaining lots of weight .
