    Pine Needle Abortion

I know that cows can abort calves when they are heavy bred if they eat Ponderosa pine needles. I have some heavy bred commercial cows that got out in the night and did a number on my tree farm. The trees are mostly blue scotch pines. Could they be at risk of aborting or are they safe?

A good bull of a different flavour

Up north its just common sense. I wouldn't want to buy a set of eared cattle that are adapted for 100 degree weather and then stick them in my feedlot and expect them to be able to take the -30 degree nights. Its alot harder on them than the british breeds. We've had some 3/4 brahman cows that...

A good bull of a different flavour

"In fact I think they are designed very close to right as they have retained the proper rump structure to assure calving ease while making the hip more square and appealing. Take a look at where the hook bones and pin bones are located on these beasts. I think these are classic examples of the...

    Club King cows

I want some opinions on Club King, or any suggestions on another high % simmental bull that will work on straight angus commercial cows to make some females. I need better fleshing ability and more depth, and I can't spend more than $35 a straw.

    High School bullying - NC

What I hate is when you see two kids joking around and you can obviously tell that they are both just having fun and being kids and then some uptight teacher or principal calls them in chews them out and basically tells them to stop being kids.

    Cracked Hooves

Well that changes everything. Those cracks can come from a few things, but the most common is damage to the coronary band. It doesn't have to be much a decent cut will permanently affect the hoof. I've never went through the trouble of treating this in cattle, but if its a horse I put in about...

When should you start clipping your calf?

Does anybody else slick sheer their calves? I did one of my spares in march for a July 30th fair and it seemed like he had better hair than the rest of my calves and I didn't groom him near as much. I'm just wondering if he had the better hair genetics or if that actually promoted hair growth...

    Cracked Hooves

So I think they are sand cracks that start from the sole and work their way up the hoof. I've done a lot of horseshoeing and hoof trimming and the best thing would be to give her a good trim and add some biotin to her diet. I would just get her through raising this calf and then get rid of her.

Does this apply to cattle too?

I saw this on the history channel and thought it was interesting. I always thought that the cow's temperment influenced the calf's temperment, but according to this study done on silver foxes it has almost no affect even when you graft cubs or implant embroys in a donor fox, they always took on...
