Does this apply to cattle too?

I saw this on the history channel and thought it was interesting. I always thought that the cow's temperment influenced the calf's temperment, but according to this study done on silver foxes it has almost no affect even when you graft cubs or implant embroys in a donor fox, they always took on the temperment of their biological  parents.

I have a cow and her daughter(now a cow) that are very cagey. When we try and catch cattle up in the fall these cows will lead there calf and any cow that wants to join in the fun away from the portable corrals. It can become a game. Sometimes its a week latter tillgrain or hay will finally lure the pair into corral. Shes not really wild or I would have sold her. I always wrote it off as her just being a good mother. My wife hates that cow and she may eventually sneak her to the salebarn when I'm not looking. She's done it before...... ;D

Great Video, Silver.  I believe the word of God to be perfect and true, so I see things like this in the most simple of explanations.  God created only 2 people, and later, only 2 cows.  The Genetic defects, or as I prefer, Genetic mistakes created all the differeences.  Of course, the more closely related, the greater the mistakes.  The further apart the realtion, the greater the number of variables.  So, to answer your question, Yes, the tendencies in calves will be mostly determined by the Sire and Dam, but those mistakes happen in EVERY calf.

Here is a website that will show how quickly genetic make-up can change.  Start at Page 346, and this should help make sense of what I said.

So how does the skin color deal work in humans. Black skinned vs a lighter skin. If Jesus was a kinda dark skinned person what was gods color or adam and eves skin color? Was Adam white and eve black skinned? Did domesticated dogs evolve from tamed wolves? Can't a species evolve within a species to adapt through minor mutations?

When we were foster parents we heard a presentation regarding twins who were separated at birth and adopted. Follow up was done when the children were grown and it was found that no matter what environment the children were raised in, the children had very similar tendencies, temperament, etc. One set of twin girls even had same favorite colors, nail polish, choice of clothes etc.

I think a lot of things are more genetic based than environmental based that we give credit for.

I have seen PROOF that a cows behavior does indeed influence the calf behavior (if the cow runs from a human, the calf will quickly learn to do the same thing).
I also have PROOF that genetics influence behavior past all external influences (I bought a flush on a shorthorn, flushed her to a shorthorn bull and put them in the gentle recep herd... they were soo wild and crazy a rifle couldn't get them.)
For those of shorthorn expertise: Casino X Primo was the pig- eyed, high headed, rifle shell couldn't catch them cross!

So, where does that leave us?  All I know is that I keep replacement from my gentle cows, and they are gentle. I only purchase cow/bulls/calves from KNOWN gentle parents. That is why I do not like the "video" sales.... can't tell how they react to nosie and a crowd.

aj, it may take a good bit of searching, but there are many documented cases of White couples having Black Babies, and Blacks having white, plus everything imaginable in between.  I had a black friend in college (many years ago) who had bright blue eyes.  He said his Dad blamed it on the time he spent in Germany(WWII).
