    Monopoly vs Heat Wave heifers

Looking at a Monopoly and a Heat Wave heifer in an online sale, both are out of the same cow (PB char by HooDoo).  Do Heatwave's or Monopoly's tend to make better cows? Both are around the same price. Thanks

    Clipping a heifer. Need tips.

Loins a little tighter with less expression, same way back into the hips, and don't make them look massive boned when fitting, more "well rounded"

    Matt Launtner Calves

Find the owner of the bull and sell it through him, I doubt breeders will be interested in a calf not sired by one of their bulls unless it's damn good and damn cheap.

    New shower/calf

Sometimes you just get calves like that. We had one this year who would come up to you in a 2 acre night pasture but would turn into Satan once on a halter. You'll just have to put her in the pasture and find a new one I'm afraid.

    Shorthorn Plus Heifer

WJM, she will be tested and then I Believe and BIM will be considered.

    Shorthorn Plus Heifer

I really like the Renegade Blue bull Mark. Will definitely look into him down the road.. Just can't find if he or Young Money are THC!

    Shorthorn Plus Heifer

We haven't tested her yet but we will soon.  MC, we loved all of the No Worries this year so all first and second calves got bred to him. One of the best bull calves is a stout and hairy No Worries on a second calver and we have 2 near identical heifer calves who are blaze face and fancy made...

    Shorthorn Plus Heifer

I'll look into them Mark! I'm hoping with her being blue and with No Worries beong a black blaze and passing the blaze down to all his offspring that we'll get a cool blue blaze but we'll have to see! Who else do you think would clean up her front end for some terminal offspring?

    Shorthorn Plus Heifer

She is a Mind That Bird (Dirty Hairy son that a Lautner promoted) on a PB Roan shorthorn cow who is around 15 years old. She is current 60 days bred to No Worries and I would like to use BIM to pretty up her front and Daddy of Em All. Hopefully this No Worries calf will be crazy colored and as...

    Shorthorn Plus Heifer

Thanks! I agree, her neck is a little short and she is slightly short strides but I think that can be contributed to the real small frame and heavy weight.

What are your averages on the livestock sales?

    Shorthorn Plus Heifer

Got my heifer down to thw county fair this past weekend where she stood behind a jet fronted Angus for Grand and a $15,500 Simm Solution for Reserve. She was small framed, born March 4 and a week prior to the fair she only weighed 1130 lbs. The picture on the grass was the Sunday before the show...

    County Fair numbers

Just wrapped up our county fair and we had roughly 60 head fat steers and 12 heifers. All the heifers are real good.. The steers have been lacking. We've lost 5-6 kids in the last 3 years who always brought good cattle because of age and no one has really replaced them.  The heifers on the other...

    How are shavings more practical/economical?

    Opinions - Blindside calf.

Looks awesome! If he's anything like the Blind Side heifer I've been working with the last 7 months, expect a smaller framed calf that is as wide and deep as you can make them.  Depth on the heifer I've worked on is unreal... Basically drags her belly on the ground.. She is backed by a Meyer-407...

Solid Gold v Yellow Repo v Smokin Bob

Personally I would suggest Yellow Jacket, females from that mating should be some exceptional cows that can be bred clubby or maternal.

    Neck sweat issues

I would suggest only using the neck sweat when tying her head up.  Tie her head high Anouilh that she can't drop it below a 70 degree angle so she can't scratch it off on the wall

Building legs on roan colored calves

I've been blessed with the opportunity to show a shorthorn plus heifer this year from a good family friend after years of dicking around with Holstein feeders.  Our county and state fair rules only allow other exhibitors and family to work on calves pre show.. My dad couldn't hardly tell which...
