    Had one 2 days ago out of a big Strictly Business cow.90 lbs unassisted. Great calf. Hair, bone, solid black, really cool looking. She's never had a calf worth 2 cents until this one.

    I know a guy who keeps excellent performance records on a herd of about 200 commercial cows. He says the most productive years of a cow are from 4 - 7 yrs old. At 9 the cow's performance drops off considerably.This is based on weaning weights.

    Is her stools loose and watery? If they are she may have eaten too much corn. Acidosis? Dump half a box of baking soda in 2 gallon of water with half gallon of mineral oil. Pump that in her. No grain just grass hay for at least 4 days.

    I agree with your opinions on the bulls at Nichol's. Stands Alone looks awesome. I also heard Wade took WA home to breed a few cows. Imagine my surprise when I was at Hawkeye on Sunday and shazam there is WA. Not sure why Wade told Jay he was taking him home but actually took him to Hawkeye...

    Calf coats

    A couple years ago I bought a really nice quilted cordura nylon calf coat. I love it but can't find where I bought it. I think it came from a dairy supply company; made by some Amish in WI if my memory serves me well. It was about $35. Anybody have any ideas?

    My brother sold his good Simmy bull and bought an Angus bull to breed his black and a few brown Simmy cows in hopes of eliminating brown calves.. The next spring about half of the calves were still brownish-gray.

    Watch out for the BIG round bales or soft squatty bales and you should be OK.

    I've had mine for 3 yrs and I'm not really in love with it. It is just too small to fit over a big 6x5 round bale. If it was another 6" in diameter it would be better and save more hay. I now bale 68" bales instead of 72". You're screwed if your bales squat even a little bit. I don't have forks...
