    who made who

I believe the last 5 yrs WMW was an almost permanant resident of Hawkeye Breeders. The last time I saw him was 2 yrs ago as a 10 or 11 yr old. He was still sound wandering a pasture looking for ladies. Heatwave and all his clones I've seen are so crippled by 4 yrs old I can't hardly believe they...

    who made who

Evidently not enough because they cloned him.

How do you raise a calf on a bottle and keep them looking good in the end?

The secret is good milk replacer 3x/day, a pelleted calf starter and NO hay for the first 6 weeks. After that you can reduce the milk to 2x/day with a little bit of fine stem grass hay. Switch over to a complete pelleted creep feed and limit the hay until weaning at 4 months. You'll have $500 in...

Looking for a proven Hereford AI Sire

I know you are looking for older proven bulls but those two new Herfs that Trausch's are promoting, Cyrus and Baton Rouge, fit your description perfectly. They are nice.

    Partnership Horror Stories

What ever happened with the Legacy Plus lawsuit a while back? That was a partnership gone wrong with possesion being very important.

    Dirty Harry on heifers?

I don't have any experience with him on hfrs but I just had my big pb Shorthorn cow calve a DH calf. She is a Vortec with a 108 lb bw so I've been cautious about what I breed her to. Her DH calf is awesome! Black with just a few white hairs mixed in. 85 lbs unassisted.

Calving Ease: Is it all "bull"?

Great point. I know a guy near me that has a large hrdr of commercial Angus and Sim/Angus cows. He started AIing his hfrs to low bw Angus bulls. Since their calves were generally better than his herd bull sired calves he started keeping those hfrs and consequently breeding low bw genetics into...

    Frozen Ears..

I feel your pain. Went to bed last night and all cows were laying contently by the hay feeder. This morning at 7:00 (5 degrees, 25 mph wind) two cows had calves. Both frozen but alive. Three hrs later both were nursing and doing well. Thank goodness for bathtubs, warm water, calf coats, and...

    Walks Alone

He looks just like the most awesome st fair steer you've ever seen. If I can get semen I'll breed my big Maine cows to him in hopes he will downsize a bit. The white face bull in the next pen is probably Mac Daddy. That's how they were penned a couple weeks ago.

    Mossy Oak ??

Mine seemed to look good at birth and look outstanding by fall. They have plenty of growth so they tend to finish before you really want them.

    The Answer

He looked real good at the IA Beef Expo. Very stylish with good  bone and mass.

    Mossy Oak ??

I've used him on a half blood Fear This cow with great results. Look at my picture. That's a steerthat was GR CH at the IA summer Beef Expo a few yrs ago. They've all been pretty big but nothing out of this world. Like the previous post said expect them to be a week late. I kept a hfr and she...

    clones just hype...

Merging the commercial cattle business and the show cattle business is very similar to the UPS commercials wanting Dale Jarrett to drive the "the big brown truck".  You don't use a Corolla to win Talledaga and you don't fill your feedlot with show cattle. Why is it so hard to grasp that concept...

    droopy calf

I did the egg, honey, coffee, and whiskey but couldn't drink the milk replacer. Feel a lot better today!  <cowboy>

    Walks Alone

He's at Nichols in Ankeny, IA. He looks just as good in person. As wide as I've ever seen, hair like a yak, amazing bone. He also moves real well. Truly a very special bull.

Day 5 and calf won't nurse the cow

I really liked the Wonder calves but never used him again after the crooked nose. They were moderate framed and real easy feeding and easy calving.

Day 5 and calf won't nurse the cow

Here is crooked faced Lil Wonder.

Day 5 and calf won't nurse the cow

I had a Wonder (Reflector son) steer a few yrs ago just like this. He took about a week to master nursing but he did prosper. Even though he had a crooked face we still kept him and showed him at our county fair. He was easy feeding and pretty stout. Didn't win but made some money. I have pics...

    Clone update

There were two older clones at Hawkeye last Saturday. I think they were 4 and 6. They looked identical! Both were plenty straight on their back legs but still moved well enough to breed a cow. HW 11 was also there. He acted wild as a deer. None of the other bulls were the slightest bit nervous...

TH is now a commercial problem

Maybe my assumption that "THF or PHAF by prdigree" meant both parents have been tested clean is an ignorant assumption??????????? Yikes!
