    Project calf

Due to recent knee surgery, we are downsizing our Denver entries. We had planned on taking this steer in hopes of finding a home for him. I really do think he will make a nice project calf for some one.  If you know of someone who might be interested, feel free to point them my way ;)  I sure...

    Prospect Calf?

I added 2 more photos, taken today, and added commentary to my original post. Thanks for the feedback.

Thanks CAB for your input.  It is appreciated.

    Prospect Calf?

Thanks ALTSimmy and OH Breeder.  The calf is purebred Galloway, not registerable due to being a male non-conforming color. A show certificate can be issued for him by the AGBA.  I am just trying to get a feel for what 'level' of competition he should be marketed to as a show prospect, if at...

    Opinions on this bull

Thanks OH Breeder and XBar for taking time to comment.  The bull has been forage raised and maintained, with the exception of 8 weeks of light feeding post weaning/pre-Denver show. He did get a few lbs of soy hulls part of last winter, residing with some younger bulls. He is 3 years old, and...

    Opinions on this bull

Jack, we had to sell her when we trimmed down due to drought.  I will look thru the hard drive and see if I have a good one of her. She was thick and broody, but a tad straight through the shoulder. Had a whale of a rump though. Good milk and fertility.

    Prospect Calf?

Thank you for giving him a look.  He is probably a touch cleaner down the neck than the photo would suggest, but not as clean as some, for sure.

    Opinions on this bull

Thank you Freddy for the feedback.  He is a Galloway bull, so I didn't figure his pedigree would mean much to very many folks  :)

    Opinions on this bull

This is our other bull, a home raised fellow.  He has been on grass for about 4 months in this photo, with only light breeding duties. We are planning on collecting him this fall.

    Prospect Calf?

We are getting some very nice calves from our newest bull. I am wondering if this calf would make someone a nice club calf. I would appreciate your opinions! update 8/2  Took some pix today, he is a month older than in previous pix. (he just turned 4 mos).  Tried to show his neck more...

NC - Questions about Kansas State U

I graduated from KSU with biology degree. Years ago. At that time, only intro biology courses were computer taught.  TA's for Chemistry were indeed all foreign and very very difficult to understand, which I find unacceptable, considering the amount of $$ people are paying for education.  Being a...

will she raise a smoke? UPDATED PICS 12-29-12

I know the market is all about black... but my favorites are still the duns. When we had to purge the herd due to drought last fall, we let two excellent dun females go as part of a package deal.  Still miss them.

    New Galloway Bull Purchase

Hi CAB.... we have been raising purebred Galloways in east central kansas since 1998, and have a thriving grassfed beef enterprise. This bull will head up a more intentional effort on our part to produce bulls and females that conform more to the size and frame preferences of commercial ...

breeds getting carried away! after watching the expo

This article appeared in Beef magazine several years ago. It seems relevant to this discussion. The resurgence of interest in the Galloway breed may be due in part to the perceived need by producers to inject true hybrid vigor into their breeding programs, as well as improving maternal...

help breaking a calf with an attitude

Long ways from an expert here, but have you tried putting him in the blocking chute and washing him? That's a nice safe way to do something that is pleasant for them, and keeps the handler from getting smacked around. It seems to go a long ways toward teaching ours that we aren't worth getting...

    New Here

Hi All... Just a quick introduction.  We are Galloway breeders (not belted galloway) in east central Kansas with a small low input grassfed beef operation. Looking forward to reading more of theses forum posts and seeing what the rest of the cattle world is up to!  ;) I'll take a stab at...
