Thinking About Using Bedding Pellets - Are They Better Than Shavings?

We were thinking of using the pellets at Tulsa.  What's the cheapest place to buy them?

    Have to Brag (sorry)

Our County Fair show was last night and I have to brag.  My daughter had the Grand Market Steer, won Sr. Showmanship and had the 1st place commercial heifer and was 3rd place overall heifer.  We are very proud!!  She is not a morning person, so it's nice to be rewarded for her "sacrificed" sleep...

    Has anyone used Vitaferm?

Our show calves are on Sure Champ and the stress tubs and our pasture cattle are on the Mineral with vitaferm.  We have had the best crop of calves this year and even with the heat all the cattle look good with shiny hair.  Very happy with the products.

What if you think you can do better?

Is there a way to diplomatically not go back in the ring to show for sale order?  Stierwalt did it last year.

What if you think you can do better?

We are taking two nice steers to Tulsa.  It's a terminal show.  How do you pull one out of the sale if you think he didn't place well enough and go on to Kansas City with him?  Both steers are nominated for Tulsa and KC.

    eye candy

We had a really nice Eye Candy steer last year.  After about 1100 lbs he went off feed.  We tried everything.  He ended up about 1300 lbs at Tulsa.  He won his class but didn't have enough cover.  Best disposition EVER.  I cried when we left hm.  He was a big baby.

    Bloating Heifer calf

Try adding Sure Champ at each feeding.  It has Vitaferm and it works well for us.  Plus it keeps them eating at shows.  You can also get a Vitaferm paste.  We give it prior to leaving for shows.  It keeps the bacteria in their guts working and appetite up.

    Dr. Scholl's Freeze Away

Has anyone tried the Freeze Away on show cattle with warts?  Our heifer has quite a few small ones popping up.  I gave he vaccine this morning, but our county fair is in 4 weeks.  She's a black Monopoly heifer and I'm worried it might cause white spots like when you freeze brand.

    Taking off fat

We are also 30 days out from our county and are having to hold ours.  We are walking 30-45 minutes every morning and cutting back on feed and giving more med. quality hay.  He's a Heatwave and if we can keep him from popping when he walks, he's gonna be hard to beat.

    Wash rack

We just put in a wash rack a couple of weeks ago.  We use a panel to tie to. I like the panel because of the multiple tie options.  I don't tie in show position, just snug their chin to a level height rail.  We completely cleaned out the barn and put in crushed rock (pea gravel).  In the wash...

    show steer will not lead

Find someone with a donkey.  We had a heifer that was the same way.  One day with the donkey and it's like a new calf.

Thanks.  Has anyone stayed at the Best Western Kansas City Inn on Southwest Blvd?  Is that a safe area?

Where to stay during the American Royal?

I am booking rooms for Tulsa and Kansas City.  We've been to Tulsa Fair, but this will be our first time at KC.  What are some nearby, decently priced hotels?

    Coolers

Ours is a 12x20.  It's roomy with 3 calves and will easily fit 4 or 5.  We have the cool calf unit and alarm system.  its our second summer and our calves LOVE it.

    Non-Caucasian Country Folks....

I love the term "Benefit" package.  It implies something earned, in our area (southeast OK) it is most certainly not earned.
