    New Herd Bulls

I'd be glad to supply you some honest carcass and growth bulls!  I might have to AI a couple of my char cows to shortie bulls this year just to see what happens

    New Herd Bulls

I agree, and of course if roan+charolais=orange/cream then that would be a growth and carcass goldmine...of course the solid reds crossed with a white cow would sell a stellar yellow calf as well

    New Herd Bulls

Reds don't take a hit too bad but there is no such thing as a roan calf in the salebarns around here and pieded (spotted) cattle get automatically marked as longhorn cross, I saw an obviously shorthorn calf go through just last week for .20/lb because they pleaded longhorn...buyers will take...

    Char colored bull?

Doc Silver is a no miss, the calf will fall out when she sneezes unless your brother's heifer has a pelvis the size of a walnut, if you look at charolais bulls pretty much anything with a neg BW and an accuracy above .75 should be safe for sure and will be a lot safer than the clubby bulls that...

    Feeding questions?

It's a probiotic that a good feed store should be able to get for you if they don't have it, I believe Sullivan's sells it as well.  It helps keep their guts working through stress or imperfect nutrient balances

April 5th born calf ! What is the earliest i can wean?

We only day wean calves that we show with their mamas as pairs but it will help keep him growing and give you a little head start on getting him broke.  If the mama will allow it the faster you can get a halter on him the better

April 5th born calf ! What is the earliest i can wean?

Technically you can wean him as soon as he will eat but I would recommend getting him on creep feed asap, if you can cut his mama out to give her a little extra every day that would help too.  We wean at 5 months on show babies most of the time.  If you can creep feed him and/or give his mama a...

    Char colored bull?

Freddy maybe you can answer about the gridmaker son, I would have sworn selectsires carries him but couldn't find him on the website, he is even a little better on carcass numbers than his sire and they have sexed semen available...I can't lay hands on my catalog that I have him marked in since...

2011 truck - gas or diesel??

We were a chevy family but we had at least one cummins in the yard at all times until I got sideswiped in our last one, with fuel now I would probably go with a gas burner or better yet a motorcycle  <rock>

    Texas Fires

Praying for y'all out there!  We have family scattered all over that way and all of them have lost at least a little grass to the fires, no animal losses yet that I've heard.  We need rain over here but for y'all it's a matter of life or death so I'll pray you get it then send it our way when...

    New Herd Bulls

I don't raise shorties but I like looking at "them purty spotted cows that will outmilk anything with a black hide" as my granddaddy who was one of the first exclusively angus breeders in the south would say.  I enjoy y'alls pictures and have just learned to ignore anything that is labelled as...

    Char colored bull?

On a heifer I would recommend Oakdale duke or there is a gridmaker son that really impressed me, I'll have to dig out my semen catalogs and see what his name is.  Final Sort and Doc Silver have also really clicked well on Maine/Angus heifers for us

The use of EPD's in the show ring.

Completely agree.  And just try selling a bull to a large commercial cowman without epd's, it ain't happenin around here.  I believe that they are an excellent tool but that they are overused and too heavily relied upon

    How young is too young?

I had a char cross heifer that calves at 16 months once, we never saw it coming until she was about 7 months along, nice little heifer that has grown up to be a donor and that first calf won commercial heifer classes all over the south, while possible I would not necessarily advise it as a rule

    broolen dewclaw

If her only chipped off a little bit it should grow back fine, If he tore it off completely then it's doubtful.  A pic of the hoof would help in assessing what he may or may not be missing, I have seen cattle that had a white line naturally but it could also be a deficiency in I believe...

    Guts
