Here are a couple of photos of Diamond Wisteria Baroness 25W, a maternal sister to Diamond Prophecy 21P. 25W is sired by Northern Legend 3N.
1st photo she is taking on herd matron Frimley Nyla Clare14N, a daughter of Mandalong Super Flag out of the same cow as Frimley Captain Jim 38J.38J is the gransire of both Timeless 36X and Captian 39X (25W lost the fight miserably)
2nd photo is of 25W and her Matlock Red Sniper 1U heifer calf at 6 weeks

I think I like the Timeless bull the most. Since this is a thread about new herd bulls and I am very excited about our three new herd bulls I will post their pictures again. For the record I enjoy the "Shorthorn Mafia" and the compliments that people give on others cattle. Of course, if you don't like them, then don't say you do, but I see a lot of good cattle on this site. Don't understand why people get annoyed by the compliments. I think this forum is about learning, helping others, networking, marketing your cattle, and making new friends.  ;D

Complete is yet another example of a female calving at less then 24 mos of age.... I think she was 19 mos. All she has done is raise a good healthy strong calf.... I know this year's bull calf is a keeper too.
Flex was show bulll of the yr ...right?

Oh there are so many Shorthorn mafias which got recognized  on white Shorthorn bulls ;)

The two major contenders are:

Solid Red Cow Mafia
Canadian Shorthorn Mafia I was implying that in ajs comment the only reason JIT even posted was because "the truth" had

I must have missed the call to arms as well. I think the term shorthorn mafia is hilarious and I hope nobody takes it to serious. It sure has made me laugh a time or two.

yep sue is right. TG RRA Complete had a maternal brother bvorn here this spring. Nice bull calf sired by 329. I am excited for the plans JTM has for Complete. We may have never met if it were not for steerplanet. I cant wait to see the calves. The ones sired by him down the road sure are looking good.  <beer>

I don't raise shorties but I like looking at "them purty spotted cows that will outmilk anything with a black hide" as my granddaddy who was one of the first exclusively angus breeders in the south would say.  I enjoy y'alls pictures and have just learned to ignore anything that is labelled as "the truth"  I really like most of the cattle in this thread and would buy any of them if we had a market for them down here at all except for show calves

One would think red or roan colored cattle would be recieved well in the south. They might not be as quick to head to the shade or creek than the black bulls runnung down there. flacowman, I like the way your grandaddy thought. Reminds me of mine. <beer>

Reds don't take a hit too bad but there is no such thing as a roan calf in the salebarns around here and pieded (spotted) cattle get automatically marked as longhorn cross, I saw an obviously shorthorn calf go through just last week for .20/lb because they pleaded longhorn...buyers will take every opportunity to steal a calf that they know good and well is perfectly fine

I'm going to have to come up and look at those calves here soon. I get a lot of compliments on Complete when people stop in and see him. I agree about the shorthorn mafia, it makes me crack up too. I think I'm definitely a card carrying member. Not sure if I can be on the solid red mafia and the Trump mafia at the same time though? Maybe they need to come up with a new shorthorn mafia family for people like me?
Sue, one of the things that really sold me on Complete before I saw him was the fact that his momma had him at 18 months old and still milked that good, etc. Yeah, Flex is Show Bull of the Year.  <rock>

I think the more that buyers continue to do this to Shorthorn breeders, the more we are going to sell them privately, keep them ourselves to sell freezer beef, and put them into retained ownership programs. I think eventually the market will come around to need Shorthorn cattle for their roan signature color which proves British blood. "Black is no longer British". <cowboy>

I agree, and of course if roan+charolais=orange/cream then that would be a growth and carcass goldmine...of course the solid reds crossed with a white cow would sell a stellar yellow calf as well

Josh, you may have created your own new mafia family. You could be the "don" that brings all the sides together!

Im glad everyone likes him! Have you turned cattle out on grass yet? I did about 10 days ago. No more hay!!!!

Haha! I don't know about that but it made me laugh. Yes, finally, we put them out on pasture about a week ago. I am super excited about how good my black cross cows are that Complete will be running with this summer! They are having some pretty stout calves out of Angus bulls and this makes me feel like the Complete calves are going to be pretty dag gone good.

Flacowman, I agree, Shorthorn x Charolais would be an awesome commercial cross. Maybe start with a 50% Angus x 50% Shorthorn female and put a purebred Charolais bull out with them, now that gets my blood flowin! I might just try that someday down the road!

I'd be glad to supply you some honest carcass and growth bulls!  I might have to AI a couple of my char cows to shortie bulls this year just to see what happens

flacowman i have always looked at charolais. I always liked Gridmaker. You ever use the Rio Blanco bull? I like the Gridmaker son EC No Doubt as well. He is in Genex. I always see Wyoming Wind and the Duke bulls. 914 seems to come up alot. Cigar semen is pretty high. you ever use any of these bulls.? What char bulls work best for crossing for a terminal product?

I have been trying to come up with no doubt's name for hours!  thanks!  I like gridmaker for females especially, he works great on Wind cattle and dukes as well for us, Have never used rio but liked the calves that I've seen, Wind is a trademark that is expensive enough to be flush only for us, I like the dukes, Have liked the Cigars and plan to flush my favorite wind daughter to him before we breed her for her next next calf lol.

For terminals it depends on if you retain ownership or not, Gridmaker is good all around for carcass and growth, excellent actually, Platinum is a good one that is just making the purebred scene, he was at Michigan's ag school herd breeding commercial cattle and drew himself some attention and has done well as far as I know.  No doubt is also good for terminals, The wind sons Thundering Wind and one that I can't name right now that Lindskov-Thiel owns are good for terminals as well.  I also like roundup's numbers and phenotype.  My best heifer calf that I'm weaning is a roundup x final sort, she is a tank, interim numbers put her int he top 30% for growth and 5% for carcass merit, and she is sweet as can be.

On growth alone it is hard to beat Doc Silver.  His carcass epds aren't great but they come small and double in size by the time they are up and walking seems like.  I weaned a 800 pound calf off of a heifer this year from him with very little creep feed, absolutely tremendous growth.  Gridmaker and no doubt are close behind him on growth and far and away beat anything else for carcass merit.  I retained a GridmakerxWyo Wind son that scanned an 18 inch eye, .1 in fat, high choice bordering on prime, and 1482 at 315 days old, all actual weights, no adjusting.

I think the ideal shortiexchar would be your pick of shortie bred to gridmaker or no doubt, I like no doubt's phenotype a little better personally.

For purebred we will be using a good bit of no doubt heifer semen on wind cows and a final sort.

I'm thinking I need to start my own 'Shorthorn Mafia' down here... feeling pretty left out right now! :p

Back on topic though, I like the looks of those bulls Jaimie. Will be interested to hear how Timeless scans for you.

Oh you really should start your own Shorthorn Mafia be part of the fun and games!

I am really looking forward to Timeless getting scanned, to be honest it will be interesting to see his results.  We will also be scanning the Weston Ablo son as well as the other yearlings in the bull pen.
