    KEYS ALL STATE 149X calves?

I bought a couple of heifers bred to AllState last year and pulled them both. Nothing serious but he can throw them bigger. I'd stay away from using him on a first calver - especially a british one. I shipped both calves - I wasn't impressed. Take it for what its worth (small sample size).

    Charolais Cows

Thanks Bogart - just checking to make sure I didnt miss something (semen opening up in Canada). I have a deal as well with a rights holder so Im expecting some ET FW calves this spring as well (I put the eggs in my commercials and we split the calves). I bought a couple FW heifers last year for...

    Charolais Cows

Hi Bogart - I assume you are from Canada. How are you using Firewater? The bull is syndicated in Canada and semen is not available on the open market yet you say you used him. I cannot get any semen personally unless I buy a calf, female bred or use one of his sons who are available. Just curious.

    LHD Cigar E46

Prowler was only used by a few breeders - haven't seen much. I saw some Time Outs but mostly heifers. Only saw 2 bull calves. Both were useful. Pictures of a few Time Out calves on Circle Cee website. I saw the sale heifer - she is real pretty. Could be thicker.  Mom is a Suspect and is good but...

    LHD Cigar E46

Mark have you actually seen any progeny out of any of these bulls you are recomending? Look at the Performer bulls picture - if you like heavy fronted, short bodied, unattractive cattle then fine. There hasn't been a lot of Performer calves around - the Prefix bull was the main one. He is...

    Albert and Walter's latest brainchild

This was bulk emailed to me today and has appeared on Facebook as well. Nobody knows who wrote it - if anyone does I would be happy to provide them with the credit as it is extremely insightful and full of facts. Im 100% with Justintime on this one. I view this as a slap in the face as a beef...

    Bloating Heifer calf

Larissa. Probably she is just having trouble adjusting to grain feed. Sometimes they will upset the balance in their rumen and everytime they eat something they bloat up. I have had a few commercial calves do this after weaning. Im in Canada too and what I find works the best is to give the...

    Stampede champion steer disqualified

The rules are not online - they are visible when you register online and are mailed out if you go the paper route. Im not saying the other kids didnt work hard - that is not the point. The kids did everything right and are being punished for doing what they were told was acceptable. Thats not...

    Stampede champion steer disqualified

So now Im a cheater. Give me a break. You are going to tell me you have never used Banamine on a show calf before? The youth in question did a heck of a lot of work, had a hell of a steer who happened to come up a little lame the day before the show. They consulted with the onsite vet about...

    Stampede champion steer disqualified

What a crock - best steer won. The vet told the young men it was fine. We all use Banamine. I feel really bad for these young cattlemen. To have something taken away like that is wrong. They earned and deserved it. Very unfortunate politics creaps into deals like this one

    I need ideas.

I have a deal with a guy with purebred charolais I buy bulls from. My kids are getting bigger, in 4-H and I run a bunch of commercial cows and we thought it would be fun to play with purebreds a little. Deal is they pay for the flush and the associated costs. He consults us with which bulls to...

    PB Charolais

X-Bar : when its -40 and we are calving up here in January our cows consume more feed to keep their body temperature up. When they are in their last trimester you can easily add 10 lbs to the calf. The extra feed that cow is consuming is not only keeping her warm but also increases the size of...

PB Charolais- What to flush this cow to?

Firewater should work - just hope you get females. The males aren't half as good as the females in my opinion. I think Ledger will work too - his calves really impressed me so far. A lot more performance and power compared to Bluegrass. And he didn't sacrifice any ease of calving either. Just...

    FIREWATER

Can't say I ever used a M6 bull or offspring. Not too many Texas bulls up here b/c of bluetongue

    FIREWATER

Mark there use to be a time when a horned char bull was the answer but the polled bulls are pretty close. I avoid the horned bloodlines if I can. The guy I buy Chars from used a polled Hank son so he is bringing some good old horned genetics into a polled herd. Calving out 800 cows I don't have...

    FIREWATER

Thats great XBAR, you continue down your path of breeding cattle and Ill stick to mine. You breed cattle for more then just dollars and let us all know how you make out. Ill stick to raising quality cattle that top the market. I had 175 steers on Nov.12 last year averaged 858 lbs off the...

    FIREWATER

You are entitled to your opinion XBAR and Im entitled to mine. If you want to trash a bull who could work in alot of operations - be my guest. Many others will happily use the bull, sell the hell out of the calves and make money. Mark - the guy I buy Char bulls from used Round-Up on some...

    FIREWATER

Ive been happy with my Firewater females. The bull calves are decent but not at the top of the pen. Not enough performance for me. Watch the feet as well. If the cow doesnt have enough hoof, choose another bull, imo. But if you want females this is as good of a char bull as you will find. Like...

What to breed Firewater daughters to?

I have used Bluegrass with success on many heifers. They dont have the hair i like to see but they are small at birth and grow like weeds. Used LT Ledge rlast year instead to try something a little newer and get a bit more hair and have been impressed to date. Calves are the no bigger then 85...

    Breeding question

Your tech is an idiot - no one can guarantee that you got her on the first cycle. All kinds of things can happen or not happen. If her cervix wasnt swollen and she was in standing heat, it could be a false heat. I had a heifer cycle throughout the summer last year every 16 days. I  AIed her...
