    New cow

If she has plenty of body depth, I would breed her to Fortune 500.  He is an older Sim bull so you don't have to worry about any Dream On in the pedigree.  He makes some beautiful, functional females.  Semen should be fairly inexpensive and easy to find.

5.5 day Sync let me down

Yes, there are so many things that can affect the success of a breeding program, ie nutrition, weather, genetics and knowledge and skill of the breeder.  For me, the 7 day sync works great.  I actually give a shot of Lute on day 6 and pull the CIDR on day 7.  It seems to tighten up the heats a...

    best chore tractor

I traded my M Farmall that I had for 15 years in on 4050 SU Kubota about twelve years ago and used it for 10 years but needed more horsepower or, at least 4-wheel drive.  I bit the bullet and traded for one of those M7040, 4-wheel drive, loader, shuttle shift.  Best decision I have ever made! ...

    Looking for new steers

Please give your location and what type of steers you want.  It is likely that several SP members in your area will have some reasonably priced calves that you will like.  Good luck!

    AI-ing a Second Calf Heifer/Cow

Don't know where you are at but if you brought her to my place I would charge $25 plus semen to breed one head.

    heifer help

Have you taken her temperature?  If it is high, she could have an infection and would need an antibiotic.

    Cloning bulls

Sons would be like human siblings, some similar characteristics but all different, like most of us who have brothers and sisters.  Cloning would give you an exact copy of the original only to be affected by the environment in which it is developed.

    Implanting embryos

I had that happen last month with both a semen straw and an embryo straw.  First time ever.  I don't think it is very common or worth worry about.

    MAB semen

I didn't mean to imply that you are screwing anyone.  You seem perfectly upfront and honest.  Folks will definitely pay more for the "original" semen.  The same goes for Monopoly, Heatwave, etc.  I just don't get why they will pay more for the original semen when a clone is a  duplicate of the...

    MAB semen

I can't understand why someone would pay $200 for MAB when you can get the clone for $30.

    walks alone daughters for cows

I kept four Walks Alone heifers out of Simmental and Sim/Angus cows.  They are turning out to be good cows with adequate milk.  I think Walks alone compliments, sound, maternal cows.

    First Calf Charolais Heifer

I've had a I80 out of a PB Charalois and it was nothing special.  Kind of plain and leggy.  I would do as DBL J1 suggests and breed her to a good Angus bull for that first calf.  Then Monopoly or MAB the second time around if you want clubby.

    Opinions on Flushing Heifers?

Based on experience, I wouldn't flush a heifer using traditional methods.  They usually don't produce very many eggs.  Can't say about IVF but sounds interesting.

    Having problems with a heifer

You say the seller of the bad heifer is "well respected in the area"  so why doesn't he respond to your calls and emails?  Probably because he thinks you will give up and stop calling.  Since the heifer was crazy when you got her home and won't breed, I recommend contacting a lawyer.  One letter...

    Artificial insemination in both horns

I try to put a little to the left and little to the right and the rest just barely in the Uterus but I just use one straw. I bred all my cows AI.

    Umbarger and coccidiosis prevention

Remember that whenever you have coccidiosis,  it is because of fecal contamination of the feed.  Or, water.  I have had calves get it from stock tank water.

    Umbarger and coccidiosis prevention

I have Bovetec mixed in my creep feed and have never had a case of coccidiosis.  It costs about $10 more to have it included.

    AI in bad weather?

Every year, I have to breed some cows when the weather is really cold (even in Texas!).  I keep a heating pad in the barn to warm my gun, scissors and sheaths.  After the semen is thawed and the gun loaded, I place it inside my goose down vest until I get to the chute to breed the cow.  This...

    Charolias x Maine Anjou

I didn't care for the I80 out of purebred Char that I got.  Just didn't click.  But second calf by Man Among Boys is really good.

    Me vs. Trausch Farms

Sorry for your bad experience but thanks for sharing it.  If you are looking for a reputable semen distributor, I would recommend Bovine Elite, College Station, Texas.  They have a good assortment of clubby bulls and do a good job of promoting them on the website and shows.
