I love this time of year

Ok, not so much the muddy pastures, cube carrying, and hay feeding, but I enjoy the cooler temps and babies running around. This DF GF Lily 102R granddaughter became a first time mom a week ago, after a rough start, she’s getting the hang of it! Couple fall born bull calves pictured as well.

    It's been awhile...

The Ka’Ba Cowboy bull is who went back to the Maine deal with Snowball. We have some embryos froze out of that cow with DF Talladega, Vortec, and a few more with JPJ just like this bull. Have one cow out of her and Vortec that may be the best cow we have on the place.

Yeah, Mark that bull we got sold. Used him for 4 years and he did a great job. That dam was something special. She was a Carl Venable cow we bought when he dispersed. She is out of Ka’Ba Cowboy and Ka’Ba Keystone on the bottom

SP friends, it's been too long, and I hope you all are doing well. My goal is to be much more active for 2019, things are starting to slow down a bit around here. Merry Christmas, and easy calving! Cheers, Heath

Thoughts on March Yearling Shorthorn bulls

For me, after seeing the pictures from behind, it affirms that the larger BW bull is the winner here, and in my opinion, it's not even close. I didn't realize before that you were in Canada, i'm in Oklahoma, 100+ BW around here is a recipe for trouble, especially in August/September. Nice...

Thoughts on March Yearling Shorthorn bulls

The lighter BW bull is deeper, looks to be better conditioned, but doesn't look very expressive. Maybe a picture from behind would show him with a bit more muscle? I think the bigger BW bull definitely has the advantage in muscle shape, but is a little tight ribbed. Not sure I would use him...

Opinions on 3 day old starburst heifer

Any updated pictures of the little heifer?

Heifer needs a ride from SC to OK

Anyone know of someone that can/will haul a heifer from South Carolina to Oklahoma?

Shorthorn Cow - Full Sib to Waco - Opinions?

I wanted to get some opinions on this cow. She is a full sib to Waco, Sonny X Diamond Helena Dottie 12H. We bought some Captain Mark 27C semen in 2011 right after buying this cow as a heifer thinking we would flush her with him. She is a big cow, the biggest on our place, and I have never...

Steer show classifications...is it time to change?

I just can't. I can understand several reasons how you could defend the classification system, but I don't get this. Let me get this straight, because the rules state that you must meet certain visual criteria of a specific breed, as opposed to having registration papers for the animal to prove...

Steer show classifications...is it time to change?

I see your point, and frankly I think many people completely agree with you, and that's fine, like I said, I personally have nothing at stake here. I just look at it differently I guess. To me it's like this. When you are filling out a steer card and it asks for breed, It's asking for the...

Steer show classifications...is it time to change?

I respect your opinion, but I can't see how knowing of 1 steer up north that had immoral breeders and owners makes that an inferior system compared to a system that everyone knows everyone else is lying.

Steer show classifications...is it time to change?

Is it time to change the way we classify cattle for steer shows? Does it make anyone else mad when you see the Champion Simmental steer put on blogs immediately after the show with sires of Man Among Boys or Heat Wave? Or a champion shorthorn steer sired by MAB out of an SimAngus cow? Is it...

    Opinions on this steer? Photo?

Appreciate the feedback. I should have added, DOB 9/10/14, weighed 540 on 2/4/15. There is a Futurity sale at the Oklahoma Youth Expo, it's a pretty neat deal, we pay $40 that goes to the buyer/exhibitor at the Futurity show back the following year, 10% of the final price goes to the sale as...

    Opinions on this steer? Photo?

Was hoping to get some opinions on this steer. He is a purebred shorthorn, sired by our JPJ son and out of WHR Cumberland 6N18. We are thinking about consigning him in a sale coming up and would also like your opinion on which photo to use for the catalog? Or none of them and try again!!

Ace Of Diamonds Heifer how to breed?

I would have to say no to MAV Bellringer. We had a 109 pound bull calf out of a JPJ heifer with him. Also was a below average calf.

Ace Of Diamonds Heifer how to breed?

Buster 2nd should be a good choice with her. I like that bull, not as good as his dad (my opinion) but still a very good bull.
